The Skippyjon Jones book series is one of the best things I've seen in a while in the world of children's books.  It is simple enough that the children laugh, and subtly humorous enough to make the adults laugh, too.  The basic storyline is that Skippyjon Jones is a Siamese kitten who thinks that he is a chihuahua.  He has a vivid imagination that takes him to other lands and adventures that give him a chance to show who he really wants to be.  He tries to use his "very best Spanish accent" and invents Spanish words as he plays.  But the main reason I love the books is that they are so stinking hilarious!  I read them to my friends' kids, to my neices and nephews, to the young singles in my youth group, to my husband, to my parents, to everyone who will listen.  It is one of those books that I try to spread to everyone around me.  I speak Spanish as a second language, so I have a blast doing all the voices and imitating the accents of the characters.  The second and third books have audio cds of the author reading the books out loud, although I must admit...I prefer to do it myself.  ;-)
