Skintimate Moisturizing Shave Gel Soothing Lavender —

Shaving presents a good variety of choices when it comes to both shaving cream/gel and razors. When I am in a hurry, I usually shave in the shower using only the hot water, steam, and a little bit of soap to prepare my skin. When I have more time, I shave the traditional way and one shaving creams/gel I have tried and liked is Skintimate Moisturizing Shave Gel Soothing Lavender, a shaving gel with a great scent.

Shaving Gel Commentary:

Skintimate is an SC Johnson product and it's like other gels in most ways. It is dispensed through a small opening and the sticky, colored gel quickly changes to foam as soon as you start to spread it on your skin. Compared to ordinary shaving cream, this gel is better because the gel helps to lubricate the skin better, making it easier to get a comfortable shave.

One thing you need to be careful with (especially men) is the tendency to overuse this gel. For a man's face, it takes only a tiny amount of gel to get the job done. An area about the size of a quarter should be all that is necessary to cover the neck, chin, and moustache areas. Gels are often misleading because the amount that is dispensed is so small it doesn't look like it could possibly cover one's face (or legs). But the reason it goes so far is because, as soon as it is spread and turns to foam, it expands quickly. Other gels work the same way and this is something you must get used to. It's generally a good thing because it means that a single can of gel will last a long time.

Speaking of the scent, there is something I should point out about Skintimate that should put most men's minds at ease. When I gave in and tried this product, I was a little concerned about the scent because I thought it would be too feminine. But what I quickly noticed is that the scent is very nice and not overwhelming in any way. And once you wash off your face, you will have a hard time even noticing any scent. Only people who get very close will be able to detect a smell. If you're the type who wears cologne you have even less to worry about because the smell of any cologne is strong enough to completely cover the smell of Skintimate Soothing Lavender.

Bottom Line:

Overall, Skintimate is a very good shave gel that has everything going for it except for a more masculine scent. SC Johnson, of course, makes and markets this product specifically for women but nothing on the label or in the ingredients makes it unfit for the face. I won't likely use Skintimate very frequently except during emergency situations but I can understand why women like it so much. It leaves your skin feeling smooth and silky and its gel formula penetrates the skin and lubricates for better comfort. It's really intended for women but it's a very good product from SC Johnson and I am glad I gave it a try.
