This book has been getting a lot of talk lately. I decided to check it out and borrowed a copy from a co-worker. Now, I'm not overweight or looking for a diet, but I have pretty bad eating habits, so I thought I'd see what all the fuss was about.

In general, this book did not disappoint, but it's not stellar either. It's written in a rather clever, maybe even manipulative way, to draw you in and arrive at the authors' controversial dieting conclusion: vegan-ism. It's edgy, it's fun, it can be crass, but it DOES offer some healthy advice.

But at the same time, I felt is was very manipulative. First, in the language that is uses and it's attitude towards people that don't eat and live their lives like the authors do. Second, and what really rubbed me more was the inconsistent use of logic. Finally, it presents emotional/moral arguments (against meat and dairy, etc) which dilutes factual information, and in my opinion weakens their case.

Overall, the authors do a great job at highlighting issues and raising real concerns that we should all have about our diets and food sources. I take issue with some of their methods, logic, and (in my mind) extreme conclusions. But this book also gave me a lot to think about, and I can apply some of their advice to my currently omnivorous lifestyle. And who knows, I'm intrigued to try vegan-ism at some point, for some period of time, but I can't see giving up all culinary joys for a full lifetime.

3 stars...read it for yourself and make up your own mind!  (Which to give credit to the authors, they constantly re-enforce that you need to think and appy all of this to yourself)

Glad my review helped you out. The authors definitely try to lead the reader in and down their path before springing veganism, so knowing it up front probably helps a lot of people.

Your review really helped me because all I had to see was vegan, and I knew that it wasn't up my alley at all....I am a confirmed, happy carnivore who can scientifically prove that we were meant to eat meat-not that the vegans or PETA people are listening, but hey...Thanks for doing the reading work for me, so I can spend some time with some of the other books you mentioned in your critiques. Have a great day.
