Good medicine; bad side effects in kids

3

My 2 year old was put on Singulair for asthma/allergies. She pretty much always has a nighttime cough & wheezing throughout the winter. Other allergy medicines did little to help. Within two days of being on singulair, her cough was completely gone!! This is an amazing medicine. She took the chewable & seemed to like taking it. The down side: She began having terrible tantrums & having sleep problems. She is usually a very pleasant child, but would freak out over the littlest thing. After 3-4 weeks of being on Singulair, we stopped it, and her mood improved within a couple days. Our pediatrician had warned us that some kids have similar side effects. So, yes this is a good medicine, and worth trying. Just be aware that this medicine (and others) has side effects & judge if it is best. If her breathing were to get bad, I would put her back on it. It is such a good drug; it makes me sad we can't use it!

made me feel very ill

1

I took this medicine for three days and it made me feel so much worse than I was feeling before. I felt so sick, just awful. I felt almost desperate about it, like I would never get better. I had read the warning about emotional side effects but I didn't put two and two together because it's not that I was feeling suicidal, but I was feeling like I'd never get better and feeling really worried. The day I figured out not to take it anymore, my husband also noted that I had been talking like I normally don't, saying things like "How do I know I'll ever get better?" I feel really sorry for kids that are on this medicine because they may not be able to tell their parents how weird it's making them feel, and they might just go around feeling so desperate and awful with no way of expressing it. My experience of this medicine was that it has very serious and unpleasant side effects and it is quite scary to me that it is prescribed so much and to kids as well.

I spent a couple of weeks of self treatment with zyrtec, Claritin, whatever I could find. Went to doc, doc prescribed antihistamine eye drops, steroids and nasonex. Two weeks later, still miserable. Doc prescribes singulair, within three hours of first pill, my facial swelling and pain, and even eye discomfort is down by at least 70 percent. I have been a long time seasonal allergy sufferer whose allergies lead to chronic sinus infection. First day, true, but I already feel better than I have in the last month. And I'm very grateful.

Singular is helping my son lead a normal life

Singular has helped my son breath better and show better comfort when there is a high pollen count.  In addition, my son's eyes would shows signs of heavy irritation as well as congestion.  Singular has significantly helped curb my son's symptons and I believe a large amount of comfort has been introduced into my sons life since the he began using this medication.

I went to my doctor because when I would want to play with my children after about 10 minutes of playing I could not take a deep breathe. I went to see my doctor and he gave me a breathing test and when my results were not very good. He gave the prescription of Singular. After taking it for a month, I took another breathing test and I had about 8 points of improvement. I can spend more time with my children playing and doing things that are important.

I've suffered from asthma ever since I can remember. It's hereditary; my grandma had it, my mom had it, so I have it too.  For those of you who've never had an asthma attack, you can't even imagine how horrible it is.  Not being able to breathe makes you desperate, and it's hard to calm down so it won't get worse.  Every time I exercised I needed to use my inhaler; sometimes in the morning for no reason or in the middle of the night.  I even used it every time I laughed too hard.  Most asthma medicines, including the inhaler make you shaky and make your heart race, they are even dangerous to your health and your life if you use them too much.  But not Singulair.  You take just one pill a day and your asthma symptoms virtually disappear; even if I skip a day or two, I don't always need my inhaler in those days.  No more random use of the inhaler, no more waking up at night without being able to breath, and no more shakiness or heart racing.  It's a great medicine that helps you not to depend on inhalers or the other medicines and get on with your day.

Singulair Works Wonders for Allergy Sufferers

5

I have suffered very few health ailments in my day but one problem area for me is my sinuses. My problems are not serious, but my sinus issues can get very annoying during certain times of the year. Most of the time, I resort to inexpensive over the counter drugs to treat the symptoms, but when a stronger solution is needed, one that has proven very effective is **Singulair**, a product designed to treat asthma, allergy, and sinus problems in adults and children age fifteen and older. **Medicine Commentary:**** ******Singulair is one of the best allergy and sinus treatment products I have ever used and it ranks as the only prescription drug I have taken in the past fifteen years. I am fortunate to have very few health problems and what few I experience can almost always be treated by over the counter medications. I was introduced to Singulair one day when I got fed up with the constant coughing, runny nose, and general sinus irritation that comes with seasonal allergies. I gave in and went to see a doctor who quickly recommended Singulair as my temporary cure. Singulair is made in two varieties: One for asthma and one for allergies. I was given the one for allergies and I quickly took a tablet and waited patiently for some results. My experience with Singulair was perfect. First, I like that the pills are small and easy to swallow. Second, I like that only one tablet is needed every twenty- four hours. Third, I like that the twenty- four hour promise is accurate. This isn't your typical, exaggerated sales pitch. Singulair tablets really do eliminate sinus/allergy conditions for a full day, eliminating the need to remember when to pop your next pill. This is much longer than the relief you get from the typical over-the-counter medication. Singulair tablets go to work very quickly. In less than an hour after taking a tablet, I can feel my sinus passages open up and my ability to breathe through my nose is fully restored. This means my sense of smell and taste are fully restored, too (one of the most annoying facts of my sinus problems is that they can temporarily block my sense of taste- not good for someone who rates beer). It all takes place in a very short time, and it lasts until the same time the following day; sometimes, even longer. **Bottom Line Viewpoint:** I have taken very few prescription drugs in my lifetime, but Singulair ranks as one of my best. My allergy attack was short- lived when I fought back with Singulair and I had plenty of tablets left over for my next fight. I usually don't need a prescription strength drug to deal with allergies but when I do, it is good to know that such a powerful and effective drug exists to eliminate the problem.

It didn't solve my asthma, but solved some allergic sympthoms

I have been suffering from asthma attacks since I was little, around 5/6 years old. At first, my parents didn't took me to the doctor to find any way to control it. Anyway, it would come and go, getting worse for some periods of time, then almost disappearing during others. When I grew older, I decided to look for a way to control or cure my asthma, I was really tired of suffering with it, specially while practicing sports. I couldn't really run without the rescue inhaller. I went to a pneumolgist, and after running tests, he tought my asthma could be of allergic origin: since I had cats in my house, and always had asthma crisis when in contact with mold. And he prescribed me Singulair. I started taking it on the same day. First of all, the medication is expensive. It would cost me a lot to follow through all the treatment. I woudl have to take it once a day, before bed. With time, I realize that the medication is working perfectly fine on small signs of allergy that I wouldn't have noticed before. Like little asthma attacks when I was around certain dogs, or the time I'd spent sneezing in the morning after waking up. But the asthma attacks at night remained. I didn't have any serious side effects from it other than headaches that would occur really strong during the morning. But they started to slowly disappear, and after a couple weeks, I wouldn't feel them anymore.

Live life with less asthma concerns.

As the parent of a chronically ill child his asthma was the one condition that limited his quality of life.  Whether it was seasonal or exercise induced asthma had a significant impact on my son's ability to live an active life.  I will stop short of calling Singulair a miracle drug, but one tiny pill has all but all but ended my son's asthma related symptoms.  After only 30 days of taking the medication my son had all but stopped having to use his rescue inhalers.  It has been almost 6 years of using Singulair and my son only has to only had to use an inhaler two or three times a year and those times are usually closely associated with being ill.  During that time, he played competitive ice hockey at the highest levels for his age and rarely did you have any exercise induced asthma issues.  It is without reservation that I can recommend Singulair.  Without taking the medication my son was using his rescue inhaler several times a week and today he uses it several times a year.

Singulair is awesome

My husband, daughter and myself all take this medication on a regular basis.  My husband had asthma as a child and it is back as an adult and since the singulair he has not had any wheezing episodes.  My daughter was in the hospital three time before age two and then she started on this medication.  She is now five years old and has not even had an emergency room visit until recently when we stopped giving her the singulair thinking she did not need it anymore.  She ahd an asthma attack and ended up in the emergency room.  She is back on it and is doing great. As for myself, I take the singulair also.  The only problem I have found with it is that I cannot take it at night due to bad dreams, which I later learned is actually a side effect of this medication.  I would highly recommend this medication to anyone who fits the criteria for it if there doctor recommends it for them.  Is is inexpensive if you have prescription insurance and worth every penny.
