Singin' in the Rain 1952  —

Combining the best of the old, with some of the finest sequences ever filmed, Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor, Jean Hagen and Debbie Reynolds were never better.   It tells the story of how sound suddenly invaded the movie studios and the silent stars had to quickly adapt to ‘talking' in the movies. Well Lena's (Jean Hagen)  thickly accented grating voice could be a problem-but not if  Debbie Reynolds  dubs in hers to fool the public.   Complications, romance and singing and dancing aplenty  ensue.

The movie moves cleverly and with lots of laughs from one memorable musical number to the next.  The highlights of the highlights are Donald O'Connor's  definitive Make ‘em Laugh, and  Gene and Cyd Charise's  Broadway Melody, Debbie's  Good Morning  , not to mention that stroll in the moisture Gene takes (Singin' in the Rain)

It's almost too easy to like and too entertaining to also call an artistic triumph... but what the hell, who doesn't love this movie?

It sings and dances its way to #20 on my list of Greatest Movies.

I remember watching this when I was young and being enthralled with the "Make 'em laugh" piece. Pure genius. Other all a true classic of a movie.

One of my all time favorite movies. I could watch this movie over and over. Gene's dance in the rain could never be duplicated.
