Several years ago, I purchased a brand-new Singer portable sewing machine. The model number is 5417C. I still find it difficult to thread the machine, so I actually avoid using it and do much of my mending and patching by hand. I have to review the instructions for threading the machine every time I take it out.
This model cost a couple of hundred dollars and has not needed any service, which is very much in its favor, as I am not near a service center. It is attractive and I very much like the feature of removable parts beneath the needle for good access to the seam. There is also a handy built-in...
review »I will never buy any sewing machine other than a Singer. They are built to last. I finally wore out my old Singer that is approximately 30 years old. I have had it repaired very few times, this last time around, they no longer make the piece that has worn out, and so I had to purchase a new one. I'm sure this one will last just as long.
I love to sew. I don't do a whole lot of sewing but I do like to make a dress or halloween costumes here and there. I like a sewing machine that is easy to use and doesn't break down on me much. The Singer has really worked well for me. I have been sewing since I was ten years old. I was able to purchse my first sewing machine almost 2 years ago. The Singer was right at my price range and has not given me any problems since.
I have an antique Singer sewing machine - treddle style - from1923! I wouldn't take anything in the world for it! I am scared to death of modern machines...they move too fast for me, but because it's a treddle - I can control the speed, and feel much more comfortable using it.
I'm sure most people will disagree with me on this because people nowadays seem to value expediancy in all things, but I prefer the quality and safety of an older machine. When I'm not using my old Singer, I simply sew by hand. In my opinion there is nothing like old world craftsmanship...
review »I have a old Singer Sewing machine that was passed down to me from my Grandma. Still works ! but it was the older heavy model. My husband bought me a new Light weight Singer sewing machine last year for Christmas. Its so handy light weight. I save tons of money hemming, my kids clothes...curtains. Love it. Works perfect everytime I pull it out.
I will never buy any sewing machine other than a Singer. They are built to last. I finally wore out my mother's Singer that is approximately 30 years old. I have had it repaired very few times, this last time around, they no longer make the piece that has worn out, and so I had to purchase a new one. I'm sure this one will last just as long.
