My husband bought for me a brand new Singer XL 6000. I spent a lot of time trying to learn how to use the machine using the manual and working with it. After using it only briefly for embroidery I ran into problems. First of all the automatic thread exchanger does not take into account that the color of thread you are using at the time may have broken, so when it re-threads automatically it goes to the next color instead of rethreading the current color you are using. In the long run I found to to be more work to use it than not. The manual has no table of contents so each time you wish to refer to it, you will basically have to go through the whole manual till you come across the page you are looking for. Last but not least the computerized bobbin failed and stopped catching the top thread. At first it was here and there than finally it simply would not sew without jamming in either the sewing mode or embroidery mode. I spent $100.00 shipping it round trip to the nearest authorized dealer/repair shop. Two weeks later it come back with an embroidered S on a scrap of fabric. There was no explanation written out as to what was wrong with it, or what was done. Again at first it worked, but within half a day it started to fail, and now it is completely not working in either mode. Thank God it did not sell my regular sewing machine because I would not be able to even sew a straight line. I have been sewing for 30 years and doing machine embroidery for four years so I am not a novice, but this machine is simply the worst investment I have ever made. Take my advice and buy a different brand.
