Most HelpfulSinger has always been a name associated with quality, and that has not changed over the years. This sewing machine is a good example of that quality. It is powerful enough for denim, but also performs equally well with the sheerest fabrics. The feeddogs can be dropped for precision seams and decorative...

Most HelpfulI guess I'm in the minority here, but I would not recommend this machine unless you plan on sewing only on occasion, and doing lightweight work. I sew handbags, and even lighter weights of fabrics that my old, $75, bottom-of-the-line Singer could handle get jammed up in this machine. The problem...
review »This is one of the easiest machines I have ever owned. Stiches are always smooth - I just love it! The ease of threading both the needle and the bobbin are what impressed me the most at first.....then I found out just how easy it was to use the sewing machine.
I have always owned a singer and don't think I would ever buy any other kind. My gransmother owned one, My Mother owns one, my sisters all own them and I gave one just like mine to my daughter last year for Christmas. She loves hers too and makes a lot of her childrens clothes with it! I just think you can't go wrong with this sewing...
review »I loved the Singer machine I grew up with. It had all metal parts and went through a flood where the whole machine was covered in mud, even the parts inside. My uncle cleaned it and it is still working 30 years later.
When I left home my mom bought me a new Singer machine. It worked okay, but there were many plastic pieces.
After awhile, I had problems. I could not figure out how to keep it from getting plugged up with thread.
I bought another machine that had all metal part. It works much better than my Singer, which I still have. Just wish the metal parts would come back.
This singer sewing machine is o.k. for the money but I expected it to have more features. It was also a little hard to sew on any material that was heavier than cotton. It tended to get hung up which lead me to have to keep threading and rethreading the needle. It slowed down the process just by not being able to go through the cloth that I had chosen. Also the light is not bright enough for those of us who have a hard enough time trying to see. But the price was right if your on a budget like me and It was the only sewing machine that I could afford.
I purchased the Singer 7442 in an emergency when my old Singer of 35 yrs finally quit. I was in the middle of a project that had to be done by the weekend, so I ran to "Wal-Mart" (the only place in town that has sewing machines), and bought the best one I could find there. I wish I could have had a better selection to choose from. I would have still chosen a Singer, but I really needed a little more powerful machine. Also, if I'd have had time to do some research, I would have gotten a model with the better buttonholer, so that it didn't jam up on me if there is a seam near by. Even...
review »The SINGER© Model 7442 sewing and embroidery machine is truly awesome...I just love it!!!!! the ultimate in sewing. Use the thread exchanger and embroider with continuous thread changes. Make borders with ease using the continuous hoop which is included. Instructions are now a pop up on the screen and much easier to find and understand. When you run out of bobbin thread the SINGER Model 7442sewing machine will rewind the bobbin right off a spool and thread automatically and continue to sew. No other house hold embroidery machine has these great features plus a large hoop, the ability to do...
