I have always owned a Singer

Crafter, value conscious
Pros

    very easy to thread, easy to load the bobbin, easy to thread, easy to use

Cons
    not fond of the glow of the light, light is inadequate

Unfortunately I had to take the first one back as the needle was completely misaligned.  While you adjust side to side, the needle on that machine was set too far back and kept hitting the feed plate.

I had  no problem making the exchange, and for everyday sewing this is a great little machine.  It has more functions than an Singer I have owned in the past.  (By the way, I still own my first Singer, which is over  50  years old and it sews great to this day)

The only drawback I have experienced with the 7442 is it does not sew thick materials as well as my Singers have in the past.
