I have been sewing for about 10 years and for three of those years I used the Singer 7426 Sewing Machine.  It is a great machine for a beginner or intermediate seamstress. The machine does all the normal stitches:  straight, zig zag, forwards, backwards.  The Singer 7426 does awesome, simple, straighforeward buttonholes.  You just pop the button into the buttonholer foot, set the garment on the machine, line it all up and press go.  So simple and perfect buttonholes everytime. I really enjoyed the automatic thread cutter, a feature normally found only on higher end machines.  It is the one thing I miss most about this machine after upgrading to a Pfaff. The Singer 7426 is a computerized sewingmachine and will need to be serviced by a professional.  But careful cleaning in between service appointments will keep this machine humming.  Take the bobbin out, clean carefully in that area, and use dental floss to clean the tension disks.
