Machine is effective for small tasks may be effective for larger tasks, however that would be beyond my skill level.  I would recommend this sewing machine, however if you are looking for a sewing machine to do more than very minor repairs, you should research much further on other machines or… read full review »

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I would not recommend this machine unless you plan on sewing only on occasion, and doing lightweight work.  I sew handbags, and even lighter weights of fabrics that my old, $75, bottom-of-the-line Singer could handle get jammed up in this machine. … read full review »

This is one of the easiest machines I have ever owned.  Stiches are always smooth - I just love it!  The ease of threading both the needle and the bobbin are what impressed me the most at first.....then I found out just how easy it was to use the sewing machine. — I have always owned a singer and don't think I would ever buy any other kind.  My gransmother owned one, My Mother owns one, my sisters all own them and I gave one just like mine to my daughter last year for Christmas.  She loves hers too and makes a lot of her childrens clothes with it!  I just think… read full review »

Singer has always been a name associated with quality, and that has not changed over the years.  This sewing machine is a good example of that quality.  It is powerful enough for denim, but also performs equally well with the sheerest fabrics.  The feeddogs can be dropped for precision seams and decorative stitching, and the stable work surface allows easy maneuvering of your work.  It automatically senses the weight of fabrics, and you don't have to manually adjust tensions.  The bobbin loads easily, and it is easy to use the self-threader.  The only drawback I… read full review »

I have made clothes for my granddaughter and they came out beautiful using this machine. I decorated her clothes with ease. Threading was a dream, loading the bobbin was magical. I glided threw some of the dough-est material such as denim yet was extremely gentile on satin and twill. My granddaughter is 6 and she could sew on it also. We made her some doll clothes and I allowed her to assist me using the machine. I have made beautiful quilts the lazy way using cloth patches and designing them. I have made my own washrags and towels. Designed decorative throw pillow. made gorgeous coverlets as… read full review »

as a long time seamstress, though not in the business, i have made everything from shorts to suits. while having used many different brands of machines, the mechanical singer provides me with the easiest and best results.  many others have difficult to use threading schemes and gadgets that were never used by me.  grandmother's old machine/s have always been my preference and proven to be my favorite.  there are, i'm sure others on the market today with simplified ease of use, however, i cannot afford… read full review »

The sewing machine I had been using was 24 years old so right away I appreciate how smooth this machine is.  Choosing stitches is very easy.  I no longer have to guess which stitch my machine will decide to do!   My only complaint has been that light bulb near the needle is not adequate.  It almost gives off a shadowy effect.  But overall, very easy to use.  Looking forward to many years of service from this machine … read full review »

The Singer 7442 was pretty easy for me to use and had lots of nice extra options. I've used a sewing maching before, but am far from a sewing guru. Even my husband figured out how to use it! It is great for around the house projects and has been very reliable! It isn't great for really heavy fabrics though. It doesn't seem to feed through the maching well without some coaxing. Definitely use in a well lit area since the light is dim.… read full review »

I received the Singer 7442 for my birthday last year to replace my 20 year old singer. It is easy to thread, and easy to operate. I was able to show my grandaughter how to use it in minutes! I find sewing very delicate fabrics or denim can be a chalenge, but is possible. The self threader is more complicated for me to use than "regular" threading, however my grandaughter mastered it in minutes.… read full review »

This machine is great for anyone.  I recently took a sewing class and many of the people in the class brought their very high priced machines.  I brought this Singer.  It absolutely outperformed them in ease of use.  The instructor even told me that this was a great machine.  I would recommend it for anyone at any skill… read full review »

My mother purchased this machine and she is a seamstress. I use it often to do things I like or to help her out and it is the easiest one i have ever used. The brand is well known and it offers ta least a year warranty. Best bang for the buck - suits my everyday sewing needs. I am not professionally trained and consider myself to be a beginner. This machine was easy to set up and start sewing. Started out with practicing on the pile of mending, but now am actually purchasing fabric and look forward to creating some baby clothes. Definitely… read full review »
