Sanity for restless leg syndrome

I have suffered with restless leg syndrome since before there was an official name for it.  I just thought it was insomnia.  When I was in my twenties I would lay awake at night, and fight it, in my thirties, I would try everything from standing out in zero degree weather hoping my legs would freeze until I fell asleep, to warm baths, cold baths, shaving, lotion, massaging, etc.  Nothing worked.  Finally in my late thirties it got so bad that I wanted to commit suicide.  I had been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, which was a result of the RLS.  I went to the doctor again, armed with internet articles about clonazapam, which was before the NEW medicine for RLS.  THe doctor refused to give me a scheduled drug afraid I would become addicted. He was also a geriatric doctor, and prescribed Sinemet. WHich comes in generic form (cheap).  THe drug is for Parkinsons patients.  He told me that Parkinsons patients suffer with RLS, and studies had shown this drug helped.  I told him that if it didn't work I would call him the next day, and would find a doctor to prescribe the other drug.  I got it filled, and IT WORKED!  I called him the next day crying, I was so happy.  I suffer with severe RLS, sometimes even get it in my arms during the day.  I have taken this medicine for several years, and the only time I stopped was while pregnant.  I take two pills every night, and it has helped my fibromyalgia.  There are no side effects either.   I haven't tried the other drugs, but why change if something is working?  It is my sanity medicine, and lifesaver!  I would and do recommend it to others suffering with RLS.
