I really like a good hearty breakfast on occasion and when I do I like to have a bag of Simply Potatoes Hash browns with onions waiting for me in the refrigerator. Sure I could make Hash browns by hand, but why should I when most of the work has been done for me. You still get to cook them so they are nice and fresh. You honestly can not really tell that you did not shred the potatoes yourself.
All you do to cook these is just add a little oil in to a frying pan, about 2 tablespoons, you then just pour the potatoes in to the pan, then you just cook them up. You can brown them up to your own liking. Some people may like them lightly browned or golden, I like mine really crispy. Of course you will have to occasionally turn the potatoes to brown them on all sides and to keep them from burning in one place. Another nice thing about these is that there are onions already chopped up and mixed in with the potatoes. The onions add a nice flavor and I don't have to peel and chop an onion myself. I really love the convenience of this product. If I am not feeling to lazy I will chop up some green peppers or hot peppers an add it to the potatoes. I have even added green onions before, that was pretty good.
When you take the hash browns out of the bag, they you will see nicely graded pieces of potato, along with onions. The potatoes do not come seasoned, this is good because it allows you to control the salt content that goes in to them. I add a little salt, pepper, and paprika. Since the onions are already there you don't need much more seasoning than that.
You get quite a bit in one bag. One bag will feed about 6 adults nicely. So it easily is enough for my family of 5 with 3 of us being children. Specifically the bag is 20 oz, which is a very good amount. The bag says that each serving size is one cup, but that is actually quite a large serving if you are eating these with something else such as eggs, or toast or eggs and toast. ½ cup is more than sufficient for a serving. So while they are listing it at about 3 servings per bag. I find it is more like 6. If this all you are eating 1 cup may be good.
Each serving of Simply Potato Hash Browns with Onions has just 70 calories. There is no fat, 50 mg of sodium, and 16 grams of carbohydrate, 1 gram of fiber, and 2 grams of protein. They provide 15% of the daily recommended amount for vitamin C, and 2% of the daily recommended amount of iron. You can find the Simply Potato Hash Browns with Onions in the refrigerator section of your grocery store, not in the freezer section. The fact that these are refrigerated and not frozen makes them taste all that much more fresh tasting. One 20 oz bag costs around $3.00 which is not too bad considering you are paying for convenience, and you also get a good amount product for your money.I personally really like Simply Potato Hash Browns with Onions. Once they are cooked you really can't tell that they were not just shredded fresh in your kitchen. I also like that the onions are already in there as well, as that is just one more thing that I don't have to do. The price might not be worth it to some, but if you think about it if you were going to peel and shred, that amount of potatoes, and peel and slice an onion, you are not really paying all that much more for the convenience and you will have saved a ton of time. I am very pleased with this product and definitely recommend it.
