Oh I remember being little and my mom taking me into the local bakery and the smell that filled the place was a gift all in it's own, chocolate, cinnamon, fresh baked bread and all sorts of great items. Smells can give you a great memory flash back.

I had just a flash back on my trip to Simple Simon Bakery located here in Appleton Wisconsin. I have had their cookies before when I gave blood (so tasty) and it reminded me of when I was little and had the cookie had the exact same taste,  so I had to see what was up with this bakery.

You walk into this little, local bakery and all the senses are dancing with the great aroma of the store and then I looked to see what they all had while others were being waited on. Oh my, home (store) baked cakes, cookies, scones, donuts, wheat, white, rye breads, roll and a lot more and hearing the lady behind the counter you know everything was made with love.

All were waited on and it was my turn (the line went fast). Marian a wonderful and very helpful woman got a kick that it was my first time in the store and I really felt like I was at a neighbor's house being waited on and she was so friendly (I am big on good service). Marian was giving me the 411 (info) on what specials they were having, letting me know that Wed. was cookie day where you can get a fresh baked dozen for only $2.75. Great deal I thought since they were fresh and so tasty.  I also found a find on a loaf of wheat bread...it was discounted because it didn't get as high as they would have liked and I bought it for a buck and what a wonderful tasting wheat bread.  My next visit with my Simple Simon bakery card will get me a free loaf of bread on my next visit and they always have such great sales so your not only saving money, but your getting a guilty product that is fresh and not made with all that stuff that you find in there food stores, not to mention great tasting.

Simple Simon Bakery have been around for 41 years and still going strong.  I really like to see that in a mom and pop store...Those are the stores that care about you and what they sell.

Items they sell:

  • donuts
  • sweet rolls
  • hard rolls
  • scones
  • muffins
  • coffee cakes
  • sheet cakes
  • cookies
  • breads
  • monkey bread
  • buns
  • wheat, rye and other grain breads
  • cinnamon breads

They also even do wedding cakes and cake by the slice wedding cakes that they come to set up...(I thought that was a neat and different idea).

You know what is really sad? All these years I have been just buying stuff from the grocery store bakery...then I went to Simple Simon Bakery and relearned what I have been missing out...I have been ripping off the family gatherings...yes I like to bake, but there are those times where I am in a pinch...no more big food store bakeries for this chicky!
Ohhhh, cheese cake does sound good...here's a little tip I learned...Grahm crackers and philly cream cheese spread on it with a little fruit...just like a very thin slice of cheese cake and less calories :)... The real cheese cake is for the holidays, birthdays and when you have been very good :)

I haven't been to a bakery (Dunkin Donuts so doesn't count) in years. We had an awesome one near our house when I was growing up and I would get cheesecake slices there. I was skinny so I could eat it everyday if I wanted. now, I have to watch my calories and cheesecake is off the list of what I think I should eat. But mmmm.....bakery fresh cheesecake. I want some.
