Simple Green All Purpose Cleaner —

It's been three years since my boyfriend and I bought this house.  That's always shocking to me because it feels like we just moved in yesterday.  When we went on our $2000 Lowes shopping spree the day after we closed, we bought a bathtub, toilet, sink, loads of paint, molding, light fixtures, switch plates, outlet covers, paint brushes/pans and Simple Green.  I had never heard of the Simple Green before but my boyfriend assured me that it was an excellent cleaning product... and, man, did we have a lot of cleaning to do.  In those first few months of homeownership, I became a huge fan of this product.  I still use it every day, three years later.

Simple Green is a concentrated, green liquid that can be diluted at various strengths for different purposes.  The company suggests anywhere between 1:1 to 1:10 dilution for heavy cleaning and a 1:30 dilution for light cleaning.  I usually use 1:8 for mopping my mud-covered kitchen floor, 1:5 for cleaning puppy crates, and 1:20 for cleaning kitchen counters, cabinets, and the stovetop.  Something to keep in mind: if you use too concentrated a liquid for the surface, this product will leave streaks when it dries.

I have found this product to be absolutely wonderful in cleaning all sorts of areas in the house.  A mop and a bucket of Simple Green solution blasts through any kind of filth that the foster puppies can track into my kitchen.  It easily cuts through the dirt and mud that they bring in from the backyard.  This cleanser is also wonderful for cleaning out puppy crates.  It removes dirt, sand, and even the occasional accident of urine or poop.  It can't always overpower the stink that pups infected with coccidia can produce with their stinky diarrhea but that's a lot to ask of any cleaning product.  Aside from our use for the pups, it's also wonderful in the kitchen.  It cleans counters, stovetops, and even the inside/bottom of the stove with minimal effort.  The company describes Simple Green as a cleaner/degreaser and I can't say that I disagree with that assessment.  It does a nice job of cutting through oils, grease, and anything else that happens to land on the stovetop or bottom of the oven.

The only issue that anyone might have with this product is the scent.  Some of the bottles don't make it clear that you need to dilute the liquid and the scent can be very harsh if it is used full-strength.  When properly diluted, the scent is pleasant enough and doesn't aggravate my severe asthma or allergies.  It's a bit different but I quickly got used to it and now associate it with "clean".

I love my Simple Green and can't imagine cleaning my house without it.  It's inexpensive, biodegradable, non-toxic, and concentrated so you can dilute it according to your needs.  Most importantly, it's an excellent cleanser and easily removes dirt and grease.  I highly recommend it.

Great review! I bought this recently and you're right...the scent almost blew me away. Once I figured out the right dilution strength it was much better. :)
