My son started on Similac Advance with Early Shield at the hospital. He was great on it for about 3 weeks, then turned very gassy and fussy. My doctor says he was colicy and would grow out of it at 3-4 months, but it broke my heart to see him so upset and bloated from the gas so I tried all kinds of formulas to help him out: Similac organic, Similac Isolmil, Enfamil Lacto-Free, Enfamil Gentlease, Enfamil Lipil, Similac Sensitive and Sensitive RS. The only one that worked is the Similac Sensitive in the orange container. Not sure why since my pediatrician says newborns aren't lactose intolerant, but whatever is in/out of the formula works for my son. He's now 4 months old and colic free. He never had a problem with spitting up; only gas, bloated tummy and fussiness. My pediatrician also recommended probiotic drops for his colic, but they never helped. I ended up using activia vanilla yogurt (1 teasp/bottle) in his formula and his crying went from 80% to 25% of the day. I took him off it for a week and the crying came back in full force. It helped during his 2 months of colic and kept him for being consiptated. His doctor didn't see anything wrong with doing the yogurt so I'm still using it. I hope this review helps someone save money on trying every formula on the market and buying expensive probiotic drops for colic. One problem is that this formula is expensive and hard to find in grocery stores. I get it at Safeway when I can find it and online at Babies R Us in a large container powder form for about $25 each. Expensive but worth it!
