Similac Organic was great for our youngest daughter. I am a mother of four and wish that Similac Organic had been around when my other children were babies. We tried every formula for our 1 year old, and she always had issues with each one of them. Finally I decided to give Similac Organic a try and it was great. Within a day I could see a major difference in her. She stopped spitting up, she was eating good, before we had issues with her spitting her bottle out and not wanting to eat, She wasn't as gassy or fussy.
I love how Similac Organic is made from real cow's milk, but only organic, it is certified USDA Organic. I am not a health nut, but I try to give my children the best products and I feel that natural foods are so much better since they don't have all of the extra junk in them. I feel that even if I'm just giving my kids milk that came from a cow that ate things that had pesticides & all that other gunk on them, that not all of it is fully filtered out, so my children are actually ingesting some of that, and I feel that is gross. To be labeled USDA Organic the products have to meet all USDA Organic requirements, which from what I know the USDA makes sure that all products are up to their pretty strict regulations.
Anyhow, back to the Similac Organic formula, I am a budget conscious mom, so at first I did worry about it being more expensive, but it wasn't, the price was very competitive with conventional formulas. The only challenge that I had was finding it, only certain stores in my area carry Similac Organic. Publix & Target are the main stores that I found it at.
My daughter gained weight as normal on it, and liked it very much. She actually preferred it over whole milk when we first began transitioning her from formula to whole milk. It was the complete opposite with all of my other children. I feel that Similac Organic met all of my daughter's nutritional needs.
I also love that Similac Organic comes in powder & ready to feed liquid. Most of the time I prefer powder cans as opposed to ready to feed liquid because I feel like the powder formula is a better value, but there are times when I need liquid (or needed as my daughter is off of formula now). Like when she would stay with my mom, I didn't want to lug over a big bulky can of formula, so a ready to feed bottle was great. I also like how it comes in 2 different size powder cans, 12.9 oz & 25 oz. The 12.9 oz size is great to take on short trips, like weekend trips, its less bulky.
But with the new canister (Simple Pac) design they aren't as bulky. One feature I really like about the new design is that the scoop has a place inside the lid so you don't have to dig for it. It was really messy sometimes with the old canisters trying to dig through the formula to find the scoop. A lot of formula was spilled and wasted. I also liked the shape of the Simple Pac, I could hold my daughter and make her a bottle with out having to worry about the canister slipping out of my hand. Also the lid is attached so you don't have to worry about your older children trying to play "frisbee" with the lid to the formula.
Some of the Facts from Similac about Similac Organic are
* Organic ingredients are produced without the use of growth hormones, antibiotics, and other chemicals.
* To be certified USDA Organic and display the USDA Organic seal, a product must contain at least 95% organic ingredients by weight.
* USDA Organic certification ensures that the farm where the food is grown and the companies that handle or process the food meet USDA Organic standards.
* More and more families today are choosing organic options as part of a healthy lifestyle.
* Similac Organic is kosher.
Another great fact of Similac Organic is that the sugar in it is from cane sugar, instead of Corn Syrup. (All milk has sugar in it) I would much rather my children have natural rather than processed.
One issue that I have seen brought up by other moms about this formula is constipation. I wouldn't blame Similac Organic for constipation issues, I think that is with all formula unless you buy low iron, which is hard to find. All of my children have experienced constipation issues with formula, and they have all been on different formulas. Even my first daughter who was breastfed experienced constipation. My pediatrician has recommend juice for all of mine to relieve constipation.
Also, milk is listed as the first ingredient in Similac Organic as opposed to lactose or something else, meaning that milk is the main ingredient, instead of lactose (which is just a part of milk and not whole milk).
As far as the powder mixing, it mixed well for me, and when it was time to start cereal I didn't have any issues with that either. My daughter actually LOVED it with her cereal too, I didn't have to mix fruit or anything with the cereal like I did for my other 3 children.
All in All we loved this formula and I hope that you will as well.
