Similac Isomil Advance Soy Based Formula —

Similac Isomil Advance is marketed as a formula for babies with an intollerance to cow's milk based formula. Do you know that most babies with an intollerance or allergy to cow's milk, will more likely than not, also have an intollerance to soy based formula? Such was the case with my daughter. She could not tollerate regular cow's milk based formula because she has acid reflux. We tried every formula under the sun including Isomil Advance. While talking to our pediatrician, he informed us that most babies who cannot tollerate regular formula, also cannot tollerate soy based formulas. So I find the promises of Similac very misleading.

I am so sorry I have not responded to your question until now. As I replied to babygirl, we put our daughter on regular cows milk on the suggestion of her pediatrician.

We ended up putting our daughter on cow's milk. We started out with 1% then gradually went to 2% then to whole. She has been on whole milk ever since. We followed a suggestion from her pediatrician. It seems to have worked. None of the powdered formulas ever worked. To counteract the lack of nutrients we also started giving her Pro Vi Sol, a liquid vitamin for children. She has also been taking Prevacid since she was about your daughter's age. You may want to talk about it with her physician. Also, I don't know if your daughter has problems with gas, but Mylicon also seemed to help as well. I hope this helps a little.

My daughter also has acid reflux, she is three and a half months old. We recently put her on Similac Isomil Advance after two months of Similac Advance milk base, lactose free which caused her to vomit, spit-up and suck on her hand to ease her discomfort. Do you have any suggestions since she is still under observation with the Isomil (2 days)?

I am wondering what formula you ending up putting your baby on because my son has reflux and i just put him on soy hoping that it would help, but we are not seeing any improvement. my email address is cswintbethel@yahoo.com if you would send me that information. thank you.
