Gone are the days of only a few choices of baby formula, there are so many choices out there for any and all of our babies needs. After giving birth to my oldest child, I thought that breastfeeding was the best choice. Unfortunately, I was unable to successfully breastfeed my child and had to make a hard choice...What baby formula is best for me and my baby? What formula would work just as well as breastmilk? I was also concerned because I am lactose intolerant and really wanted a formula that wasn't made from cow's milk. In 1993, even though there were several different brands, nothing that I found matched excatly what I was looking for. I settled with a well known brand made with cows milk and tried to make the best of it. The formula gave my baby gas, contipation and she was almost always difficult during feeding times. After discussing all the options available with the peditrician, I discovered that there just weren't many choices out there for mothers in my situation. Things, over time, got a bit better and as the years progressed and I had my other children. Luckily I was able to sucessfully breastfeed my second and third child without incident. It wasn't until I had my last child (August 2008) that I was faced with this issue again. I was very distraught at the possibility of having to endure watching my little one suffer through her feedings in discomfort. Again I spoke with the doctor, but to my surprise, times were a changin'! Not only were their many more choices of brand name formulas, but now with specific problematic areas targeted such as colic, gas, spitting up and even lactose intolerance! I spent some time online researching different formulas and after much consideration, I chose Similac Isomil Advance. This formula is a perfect fit for me and my child. It offers many of the same benefits that come with breastfeeding, packed with vitamins, minerals and nutrients that are vital to the proper health of your infant. I myself was very pleased to be able to give my baby something other than cow's milk without the worry of lack of nutrition.
