Similac Advance Baby Formula Review

This is our third baby, and our first time using formula. Similac Advance is working well for us in the transition period.

Our two older children were breastfed exclusively through 13-15 months, when they weened to organic whole milk in a cup on their own. I never thought I would use formula, -- ever! But our current baby is now a biter! He already has 8 teeth and is cutting more molars now.  He is 11 months old, still nurses at night for comfort and in the early-morning for a big meal, but for the past few weeks we have tried using different formulas in a cup during the day instead of breastmilk. No luck, he preferred a cup of water with his food instead.

Then our pediatrician told us to use Similac Advance when I told her I wanted to start weaning around his birthday. He took to it immediately. I'm not a fan of the price of formula in general (although it costs about the same as competitors), but I am happy to know he is getting all the nutrients he needs during this transition time. We plan on using this for another month or two.

Pros: we can find it easily everywhere: grocery store, Target, toy/baby store. They have two sizes, we just purchase the smaller size since we are not sure how much longer the baby will use it. Mixes easily with water in cup. No tummy upset, no diaper issues. He likes the taste better than the others that we tried.

The big con for me is from the breastfeeding support forums where I just read that the DHA/RHA supplement is controversal in formula use. Stating that there is not enough research yet, that the additives are derived from fermented sources and not natural, that it is all about profit and that our babies are guinea pigs, etc.  Just reading this has made me want to possibly search out another formula that doesn't contain the DHA/RHA additive just b/c it is still so new. But the bottom line is that I trust my pediatrician.
