Some places you go with pool tables will use any cheap chalk they can get and thats not good. These cheap chalks won't stick to the tip much less allow you to have any type of good ball control. A quality chalk will evenly coat the tip and prevent the tip from sliding off the impact point with the cue ball.

Silver Cup Billiard Chalk

Made right here in the U.S.A. in Macon Georgia, Silver Cup Chalk has been in business since 1990. Their billiard chalk comes in many colors as well to match your table. While some think the colors are not useful, owners of a pool table will disagree with you. Felt gets chalk all over it as you play and if your chalk isn't a close match to your felt it looks real bad. My table has dark blue felt, so I use a chalk that matches my table. A very old rumor around some pool halls is that the color of the chalk determines how well it works. This is not true at all as they all are made the same except the addition of the various colors added.

What chalk does is allow the tip of the stick to impact the cue ball without sliding off. This gives you far more accurate ball control and helps you make those hard shots. If you ever watch a good pool player they will chalk the tip before every shot! This Silver Cup Billiard Chalk coats my tip evenly and it is not expensive.

Colors Available from Silver Cup Chalk

Black, Blue, Brown, Burgundy, Camel/Gold, Charcoal, Copper, Coral, Green, Gray, Navy, Olive, Orange, Pewter, Pink, Plum, Powder Blue, Purple, Red, Spruce, White and Wine

So as you can see they have a chalk to match your felt as close as possible. Its not only the best chalk I have used but comes in many colors to keep your felt looking better longer.

Bottom Line

You can buy a lot of different brands of chalk, but only a few are of good quality. Silver Cup Chalk is among the best around and not expensive either. It's the only chalk you will find on my pool table! It is also recognized by professional billiard players.
