Shrek the Third Review Summary

Assumably wanting to "ride the popularity" of Shrek and Shrek 2, the producers created a third in the series, Shrek the Third. Most Viewpoints reviewers are in agreement that this third installment in the Shrek movie series just doesn't live up to the previous two. While this Dreamworks animated film has a few of the funny moments of the previous two films it just didn't seem as funny, interesting, or innovative. Despite its lackluster plot, stars Michael Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Antonio Banderas are back, and a great addition to the cast of characters are the Shrek babies and donkey/dragon babies!

The third installment of Shrek, Shrek the Third, was released this month and while it doesn't exactly live up to the fun of the original two, it's still a great story and has many funny moments, although some of the them are a little juvenile when it gets to the poop jokes. That type of humor didn't... review »

The Case

I couldn't wait to take my little brother and sister to see Shrek the Third!  They couldn't wait either!  We were all so excited, we could barely stand it!  Unfortunately, the movie turned out to be just as flat as the extremely overpriced theater...

I was a very disappointed with SHREK The THIRD.  I know it was bound to be different from the original SHREK movie, but I expected the writers to try a little harder to a least make this movie enjoyable, but I guess all of their creative juices went out of the window.

I was so "ogre" this movie after the first five minutes. What a stinker!

Nobody was more excited that I was to see Shrek 3, and nobody was more bummed than I was after it was over. I sat in my theatre seat wondering what I just watched.

Shrek 1 and Shrek 2 were so clever! The humor was on both children and adult levels. They were so silly and quirky. Shrek 3 was neither of those things. It was boring. I didn't care about Shrek's worries to become a dad. I didn't care about Artie - the shy, next heir to the throne. I didn't like the princesses - they brought along too many new characters without...

My three year old daughter and I are huge fans of Shrek and his friends.  It's one of the only movies she will sit through the whole thing.  The first day the movie was out in theaters, we had to go and see it.  I could not believe that she sat through the whole movie, even with her cousin sitting next to her.  The two girls were mesmorized.

Shrek the Third is about Shrek and Fiona in their first year of marraige.  Fiona's father passes away and unless Shrek finds the heir he will have to be king.  Shrek does not want to be king, he just wants to go back to his swamp with his wife. ...

(SOB) I was a serious, dyed in the wool "Shrekie" when it came down to it (just me, no kids) and wouldn't you know it, I sat for many long months rubbing my hands together in aticipation of Shrek the Third only to be deflated like a worn out beach ball...

I expected some of that great Shrek puns-or tounge-in-cheek, and PLEASE bring back that yummy irreverence that made Shrek (one and two) so fresh and laugh out loud histerical, but nada...barely a chuckle here and there. Obviously the writers wanted to ride the popularity of the first shreks without having anything to do and so storyline, humour,...

'Shrek the Third' is not a terrible movie. It's just that the original 'Shrek' and the first sequel ('Shrek 2') were superb. 'Shrek the Third' suffers by comparison and suffers horribly.

The first two 'Shrek' movies were brilliant. Funny, innovative, and interesting to both children and adults. 'Shrek the Third' is none of these things. Only children will really like it. It has a weak script and is a major disappointment to those who saw the first two films.

Still, the familiar, loveable characters are present and it's cute. Children who aren't comparing it to it's predecessors will enjoy seeing...

This movie was not at all what I expected it to be. Parts one and two were so much better. They were funnier, better script, better everything. Seems I am not the only one who felt this way. When parts one and two came out, I liked them even more than my children did! LOL

As for this third Shrek movie, my kids watched it before I did, and they told me it wasn't that good. I didn't beleive them until I watched it myself. I remember telling my husband that they were probably just feeling like they were too old for it now. You know the age, when they want to be grown. Nope...... they were right.

I thought this was the best of the three Shrek movies.  My husband and I watched this at the drive-in and we were captivated for the majority of the movie.  However, it did drag a few times.  The movie had suspense, villians, heroes, and comedy.  And the Shrek babies are so cute!!!  Yet, I think the donkey and dragon babies are even cuter!!!  This movie does a good job of continuing a story and it is fun for the whole family!!!

The shrek movies are fun for us because the adults in the family like them as much as the kids. that being said, I am not sure that I love it as a kids movie, because there is so much adult humor. this one was pretty fun, but a little bit of a stretch on the plot.

We went to see Shrek 3 while on vacation, expecting to laugh and have a good time.  My husband and I were seriously disappointed.  The original Shrek was excellent, and even Shrek 2 was interesting enough to be worth purchasing.  We won't be purchasing Shrek 3.

I felt that Shrek 3 had a promising storyline, but they ultimately dropped the ball by trying to cram too much into one movie.  They just tried to do too much within the time limits, and it just felt rushed to me.

Each other Shrek movie took a main idea and branched off from it, but kept the main theme strong.  In Shrek 3, they had...

Although Shrek 2 was not as good as the first, it benefited from the addition of Puss in Boots. This 3rd, and hopefully final, attempt was not as interesting, not as funny, not as innovative as either of the previous. The creators apparently are resting on their popularity-by-name and the fact that Shrek was a big hit to carry whatever they put across.

Shrek 3 felt as though there were a bunch of people in the room throwing out ideas and they drew them out of a hat and put them together to string a movie.  OH, what if we have the bad guys try and turn their stories around...like, um, Unhappily...
