Shrek the Halls has been eagerly anticipated by my children for the last three weeks.  McDonald's shamelessly promoted the program through their Happy Meals and advertisements.  We watched the program as a family tonight.  We are big Shrek fans and get a kick out of the "potty" humor.  But at the same time, there is always a message.  The good guy wins, the bad guy loses.  The program was full of commercials, which was a bit annoying. Clever insertions of up-to-date songs help to give the story momentum.  The plot was simple.  Shrek had never experienced Christmas.  Now he was expected to provide this spectacular festivity for his new family.  He was trying to make it what others told him it should be when it really should have been what is in his heart.  So many of us get caught up in all of the commercialism in Christmas.  It becomes the most stressful time of the year when it really should be the most peaceful.  With any luck, this will become a new Christmas classic along with Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.  It's a bit off the beaten path, but worth a half hour of time watching and laughing with your family.
