Shrek Review

The Case

With the new Shrek movie hitting theaters, I felt the need to pull the original tale of my favorite, green-skinned ogre from the shelf.  Rewatching it, I can't help being just as delighted with it now as when I saw it the first time!

The Good

I don't know too many people who haven't had the enjoyment of seeing Shrek, but for those few out there, let me expound for a moment.  It's HI-larious!!!  The computer animation is brilliant, the voice cast is superb, the story is wonderful, and the humor is sharp, witty, and just as entertaining - if not more entertaining! - for the adults as it is for the children.  As adults, I think we all get sick of those run-of-the-mill kids movies with the same old plots, same old scenes, and same old stereotypical characters.  Well, Shrek broke every one of those molds and then some.  In fact, Shrek breaks them, and mocks them mercilessly whilst in the midst of their ultimate and unabashed destruction!

The Bad

The humor's a little crude.  There, I said it.  It might bother you.  Not me, though.  I'm too busy laughing heavily to be bothered by an ogre butt and light swear words.  And Farquaad's compensating for something.

The Verdict

Five stars!  If you haven't seen Shrek yet, where the heck have ya been?!  Living in a swamp?!
