I didn't hear anything about this movie at all when it was released in theaters. I finally saw a trailer on the official website but that was about a week before it came out on DVD (June 26th, 2007). I was so happy to finally see a trailer that showed what looked like a real sniper movie. I've seen so many impostor movies that just don't get into the whole world of sniping and just how hard and how many factors go into every shot. After watching Shooter, I was correct in thinking this is a true sniper movie.

Plot: A retired Marine marksman is coaxed back into action after being told of a plot to assassinate the president. When the same people who got him to come back double cross him, he's forced to escape from their custody and ultimately get revenge.

Ever since Mark Wahlberg made the transition from music to movies, I've loved his acting. He has this calm, cool style that seems work in just about every role he's played. Shooter is no exception and his acting style matches perfectly to the Marine Gunnery Sergeant he plays. He's not the only great actor in this one though. Danny Glover, Rade Serbedzija (who played the Russian terrorist from the last season of 24), Elias Koteas, Ned Beatty, Michael Pena, and Kate Mara all give great performances that really add to the over quality of Shooter. The directing and cinematography was also done well and it had to be to properly shoot a sniper movie.

The gun fight scenes are great, very graphically shown. It almost had me believing they were really shooting the bad guys. You'll also find a few super explosions, which are always a good thing for an action movie. The story is well written with some great twists. Even though I could guess a few of the twists, it was still good.

I suggest picking Shooter up, it makes for a good dinner time movie. Be warned though, some of the gun shots are shown very graphically.

MPAA Rating: R (for strong graphic violence and some language)

Runtime: 2 hours 5 minutes

Year: 2007

Rating(out of 10): 8

I love Markie Mark! I used to think he was a goof until he started acting. Now I respect him quite a bit as an actor.
