Shoot 'em Up is a movie that my husband has been looking forward to seeing.  I think the title will appeal to most men since it hints of a lot of action and adventure.  This is a 2007 movie that was both written and directed by Michael Davis. It stars Clive Owen as "Smith" and Paul Giamatti as "Hertz".

The Plot

Just from the title you can percieve that this movie has a lot of action involving shoothing.  It is a bout an innocent man, Smith, who witnesses a pregnant women being pursused by someone trying to kill her. Smith decide to try to help and in the process ends up delivering a baby.  The mother ends up being shot and dies.  Smith is left with a newborn baby that someone wants very badly.  The movie revolves around the prusuit of Smith by Hertz, who is the leader of the gang trying to run down Smith to get the baby.  But why does Hertz want a newborn baby?  You'll have to watch the movie to find out!

My Thoughts on Shoot 'em Up

This was just an average action and adventure film in my opinion.  The plot was very simple and needed a bit more implications and reasoning to it.  Some of the action scenes were very cheesy and others were very well done.  I was very excited to see Clive Owen in the lead role here.  It is not the typical kind of part that he usually does.  And he carried it off very nicely.

I also enjoyed Monica Bellucci in the role of a prostitute who ended up on the run with Smith.  She was very good and played a convicing part that had a lot of ups and downs, as well as emotions involved.

For the most part, this is a guy movie.  If you enjoy movies with lots of action, shootings, guns, etc., then you will probably enjoy this movie for the action alone.  The special effects were pretty good and most of the fighting scenes seemed to be fairly realistic to me.  My husband enjoyed the movie overall but did think several of the fight scenes were total hogwash.

Ladies, if you are a Clive Owen fan, you will enjoy seeing him in a different kind of role from his usual comedy/drama.  This movie should entertain you and certainly better than watching reruns on TV.

Shoot 'em Up rusn for 86 minutes and is Rated R.  It contains a lot of bloody violence, language and sexual content.  I wouldn't recommend it for anyone under the age of 18.

All in all this is an average movie and an exciting role for Clive Owens.  The plot is just lame.  Shoot 'em Up gets an average rating from me!

I never heard of this one. I like some action films but I will pass on an average one like this.

Well it has lots of blood....definitely a film for the guys!

I'll pass, but sounds interesting. I usually avoid things that are called "bloody" :)
