Bottom-Line: In the end-game Shoot ‘Em Up is entertaining enough if you like mindless violence, and little if no ploy-line.
British actor Clive Owen has a put together a reputation as an actor who shows up wherever the most violence is erupting. His tough, grizzled face lends itself to these roles, and he plays them rather well if you are into these type of movies. You know the violence laden, mindless, plot constrained movie with flying bullets, loud explosions, and wanton sex. Such a movie is Shoot ‘Em Up (2007), written and directed by Michael Davis.
My Viewpoint
Shoot ‘Em Up, which also stars Paul Giamatti, and Monica Bellucci is a loud affair with little to recommend it other than to watch Owen' character Smith dive, shoot, run, shoot, and slide shoot, his way through most of the film. The beautiful Ms. Bellucci, who portrays Donna Quintano, a lactating prostitute, is Smith's partner is this movie without a creditable plot that starts with a pregnant woman being shoot in the head after giving birth to a son.
It is only way later in the movie that we learn why she is shoot, and why an endless number of gun toting men led by Paul Giamatti's character Hertz, is trying to kill the newly born tot. But that is the flavor of the Shoot ‘Em Up there is little plot and little interest in engaging the audience on an emotional level; this movie is all testosterone, testes and blood. Little else is offered and should be expected, but if you have little else to do on a cloudy day you might want to give it a view.
