Sho Studio - Miwa - Chicago, IL —

Two years ago when I had two kids under 2 I decided enough was enough. I wanted to look good, and my hair to look great, but I just didnt have the time to make it happen.

I wanted no more blow dryers, no more flat irons, and definitely NO MORE FRIZZ!!!!!!!! But, I wanted to look good. I know, it is stupid. But, when you are a new mom and feeling frumpy all the time, it makes you feel better!

So, I started the search for options to reduce hair frizz and get more of a permanenet straightening.

That is when I met Miwa. Miwa is a hair stylist and japanese hair straightening expert that works at Sho Studio in Chicago. Miwa is hard to get in with-- everyone loves her- but if you can get an appointment, GO!!!!!!!

Initial Consultation for Japanese Hair Straightening
I had an initial consultation with Miwa to discuss the process of Japanese Hair Straightening (also known as: Liscio Thermal Reconditioning System) and she walked me through the whole process and procedure. She discussed with me the time commitment (all day!), the likelihood that my hair would respond to the hair straightening (high!), and the cost (ouch! $700+).  But, the good news is that the hair straightening lasts on average 8 months to a year. So, for one upfront payment, and a day of your time, you can get your hair straightening done and it will last a year!!!

TIP: Book in advance. Miwa's Japanese hair straightening can take up to 3 months to get scheduled. Since it takes all day, it really limits her ability to work with lots of clients.

The Day of: Getting My Japanese Hair Straightening
I went in and Miwa and her assistant were just wonderful. I was there for 8 hours with them and they gentle, attentive and helpful about keeping me entertained for the day. They ordered me lunch from a local deli, had lots of books and they walked me through everything they were doing.

I know several people who have had this hair straightening process done and their hair was fried. Miwa is the best! She trains other people and really knows what she is doing.

If you are considering Japanese Hair Straightening, I would definitely recommend visiting Sho Salon and talking with Miwa. She is extremely talented and will take great care of you! If you are going to spend the money on having this process done, go to the best.

P.S. For those of you that have questions about the process, here is my two cents on the pros and cons of Japanese Hair Straightening.

What is so great about Japanese Hair Straightening?

  1. You can get out of the pool and your hair dries perfectly
  2. You can wash and go.... no need for styling
  3. Your hair comes out silky smooth and appears in great condition

Downside of Japanese Hair Straightening?

  1. For some, your hair can look flat. So, I would recommend getting a hair cut with some texture
  2. It is expensive!
  3. If you dont go to an experienced person, you could be headed for trouble!

Really? Illegal? I never heard that.

I'm glad you love your hair and that it turned out great. But just to other readers some Japenese straghtening procedures are illegal in the USA. So please do your resurch.

Always wondered about this proccess. Thanks Jolie for the infor. I hate my hair but don't know if I could justify spending the cash on me (if you know what I mean).
