Sherwin Williams Paint —

About two years ago, my husband and I decided that our house needed to be repainted. The contractor who did the work highly recommended Sherwin Williams paint. Since I thought that paint was basically paint, I agreed without looking into it too much. Well, that was a mistake. I have two children which means that there is a lot of handprints on the walls. The first time I tried to wipe the walls clean, I was in shock! The dirt did not come off. There are a few marks on the wall where my kids' toys have banged into them and those marks did not come off either. Now, I look at my walls and just cringe because I can't seem to get them clean! When we have the house painted again, I will surely not be using Sherwin Williams paint. I will say, in their defense, that they had a ton of colors to choose from and I really liked the colors I chose, especially Potentionally Purple, which is the color of my daughter's room. Overall, I am not impressed with the quality of the paint.

What product line did they use? If they used a contractor grade of course its not going to be washable. If they used the residential grade Duration home or Superpaint you would have loved the results.

What sheen did you use? If you have kids, never use anything under Satin or Egg Shell. Flat paint is not scrubbable or durable. Duration Home is a fabulous product if you have kids! My boys handprints come right off - with water and a paper towel. Other stains come off with 409 or Lysol and the color doesn't come off on my rag. With most paints it does.
