Sherwin Williams Paint —

When my husband and I decided to have our living room painted, our contractor suggested using Sherwin Williams Paint.  Since I'm a big fan of Behr paint, I had never tried Sherwin-Williams before.  We went with his recommendation, and we are quite pleased with the results.

After viewing an enormous fan deck of available colors, I narrowed it down to two light neutrals.  We drove over to the closest Sherwin-Williams store and headed straight to the color wall, which was well lit.  I looked at my paint choices in both the store light and the sunlight coming through the windows.  Since I was still unsure, my husband asked the clerk if we could get a small sample of each contender.  Unfortunately, it's not possible to get the small samples that are available with brands like Glidden and Valspar.  Still, we bought a couple of quarts so I could test them out before committing to a final color.

I found that Sherwin Williams paint covers fairly well, though I didn't think it covered quite as well as Behr.  Still, it is definitely good quality paint at a fair, affordable price.  Once the paint dried, it left the loveliest sheen on the walls.  We settled on "Biscuit" in an eggshell finish on the walls and flat for the ceiling.  It looks great -- no streaks, missed spots or drips.  We got two coats, but I think it would have been okay with just one.

Overall, I'm pleased with the results of Sherwin Williams Paint.  The colors are fantastic and the finish looks elegant.  In the evening, the walls give off a subtle glow as the lamp lights bounce off the walls.  Very cozy.

I'm sorry, I don't remember whether it was Duration or something else, but it is an eggshell finish. It doesn't appear shiny, just a very slight sheen--almost flat. I know that the satin finish is very shiny because we used satin for the test swatches and didn't like it. Good luck to you.

Hi, what line of Sherwin Williams paint did you use? Our painter is cutting in the Duration line over Behr Eggshell that we had before and the Duration is shinier than the Behr Eggshell --- we had asked for something a little less shiny than what we had and are in panic mode!

They sell quart size samples because there colorant system doesnt break down any smaller. Also most people complain that the other companies samples arent enough. Also what product did they use for the finished product?

My husband's from RI. I wonder if he's heard the joke. LOL...I'll have to ask him.

It's my favorite paint. My home state is Rhode Island founded by Roger Williams, and the joke was that his brother was Sherwin Williams. maybe not so funny if you're not from RI, but a nugget of info!

Thank you! I do enjoy my little projects during my MS remissions. I just finished recovering a chair that was destined for the Dumpster and it turned out beautifully. I especially love rags-to-riches projects. :)

I love it that you're back reviewing. You do a lot of interesting "projectizing". Guess I'll stick with Behr on your say-so. The final "Biscuit" result sounds wonderful, however. Thanks for the info.

Hello love is Joy, It's been a while since I visited Sherwin Williams and I too have been pleased with the quality of there paint.

I'm a little curious about the price, are they higher or lower then the other brands of good quality paints? ... I want to paint several rooms this fall and have not decided yet on who I should chose.

Price may or may not be a factor in which brand I chose a good quality paint usually cost little more.

I have no idea what brands of paint are good, so thanks for the recommendation. Glad to see you back and writing again!

Thanks Anna. I once chose a color for my bathroom that I ended up hating and repainting a month later. Now I rely on neutrals and I test samples of the actual paint before I commit to a color.
