This hotel gives Sheraton a bad name
appreciative of good service

My biggest issue with the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside was the widespread indifference and unresponsiveness by the employees. I appreciate good customer service; this hotel is sadly lacking in that area. Employees often appeared visibly annoyed with questions or issues brought to them by many of the guests.
My room was somewhat dusty. Wires from open holes were coming out of outlet spaces. The shower was slightly mildewed and the room was usually inconsistently stocked from day to day with the customary coffee, toiletries and daily paper which I would have to later seek out.
There was nothing that remotely resembled cold water from the faucet; rather, it was warm enough to that which one would expect taking a shower. The air conditioning was either too little or too much even though it was controlled from the room. The carpeting was shabby and poorly laid in the room and the hallways and there was no working ice machine to be found in a hot hotel in the hot, humid summer.
The hotel restaurant menu was exceptionally overpriced and the food completely underwhelming. The restaurant, however, had a very nice view of the waterfront.
The only positive I can attribute to the hotel is its excellent location in downtown Norfolk. It is adjacent to the local waterside entertainment venue as well as numerous businesses and tourist interests with an exceptional view of the harbor activities. All in all, the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside was a real disappointment, lacking the promised amenities. Hopefully, completion of the remodeling and a change in the hotel management will turn things around. Fortunately, there are other hotel options in the area in the interim.
