Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers - New York, NY Review

We recently stayed at the Sheraton New York located at 811 7th Avenue 53rd Street. The phone number is (212) 581-1000. We were there for a conference at which my husband was presenting so I was pretty much on my own.

Pros

• The location is fantastic. Given I was alone I was able to walk and walk without getting lost! The Sheraton New York is within walking distance of the theater district and great restaurants. We spent several nights there and never used a taxi or the subway.

• There is a fitness room. It had all the equipment necessary. It is on the bottom floor so it looks out onto the sidewalk (well it is a tad below the sidewalk) so it is either a great people watcher place or you might feel as if you are in a fishbowl.

• The room had a comfortable bed and the necessary amenities.

• The hotel has a store for sundries, a jewelry store, a handbag store, a couple of restaurants, and Starbucks coffee both in the lobby and in the room.

• There was a nice long desk but only one chair. The desk needs to be replaced!

Cons

• Due to the great location the noise outside could be heard.

• The walls were thin enough to hear our neighbors.

• The room was drab and needs some new uplifting carpeting and wallpaper.

• The light next to the bed did not have a shade and though we asked for one it never came.

• The room was small though I have learned that this is true of most hotels in NYC. In fact one hotel's room in which we stayed with my mom was so small I wasn't afraid to leave her alone. If she fell she'd fall on the bed! So compared to that one this was a palace - size wise.

Jo's Viewpoint

The rates start at around $285.00 a night. That's a lot of money but not for New York City. This is a great hotel for business but with no pool or shopping in the hotel I wouldn't want to vacation here.
