Most every business office contains calculators and it is common to find a large, bulky adding device on the desks of every office worker in the typical company. These calculators share many things in common; most notably the ability to print and the inclusion of only a few basic mathematical functions. One calculator designed for office use that offers more than average is the Sharp Compet QS- 2770H Calculator, a large business calculator.
Calculator Commentary:
Sharp Compet QS- 2770H is a large, desk top calculator with the standard functions found on most calculators of this type, plus a little bit more. Besides the standard functions, there are also eight memory keys, backspace, percent key, square root key, asterisk key (to clear all), CE key (clear entry), average key, date key, two key rollover, grand total, etc. There is even a tax function and cost/sell/margin function to help make business computations more quickly.
This calculator is similar to others, as far as its basic features and qualities. But this Sharp calculator is easily better than most, for it offers many more functions that are not available on most business calculators. Some of the extra functions include an average calculation key, tax function key, and date key. The typical business calculator doesn't offer functions like these, even though they are very relevant to a business person's needs. These are all helpful, but my favorite feature is the fact that this calculator displays up to twelve digits on its display panel. Most other calculators cut off at nine or ten digits. With twelve digits, numbers can be input as high as 999,999,999,999; a number one shy of one trillion! With twelve digits, any business person is safe with his/her entries. Even if you work at a huge company, you will not have sales or expense dollars too large to plug into this calculator. Only someone working for the U.S. Government could possibly have trouble getting large numbers input.
Are there other positive qualities with the Sharp QS- 2770H? There certainly are. Another function I like is the backspace key. Most business calculators offer no such key. All they offer is a CE (clear entry) key. Using this key will erase a mistake, but it will also require that the entire number be re-input. With this calculator, there is no problem with re- entry because the backspace key can be used to erase only the last character(s). There is no need to retype the entire number because the first part of the number will still be there, using the backspace key. I also like the speed of the printing. And advancing the paper so it can be torn off at the right point requires only a single press of the paper feed key. The calculator has been programmed so that one press of this key will advance the paper by a few lines- just enough so that the last number generated will be just above the tear- off bar.
Bottom Line Viewpoint:
Overall, Sharp QS- 2770H is the best business calculator I have ever used. It sells for just over $100, which is a higher cost than most business calculators. However, it does offer several more functions than a typical office calculator and the 12- digit display pretty much guarantees that you won't run out of space on your display as you enter numbers- even if you work for a huge company. It all adds up to a superior business machine and one I recommend to office workers everywhere.
