I bought this microwave over two years ago. Since both my ex and I were relatively lazy when it came to cooking, a microwave was a necessity. We already knew this, but put it this way: try living without a microwave for a week, as we did, when you're REALLY used to having one. It sucks. Bad.
Our trip to Target ended with us having the Sharp R-308JW 1100 watt microwave. It wasn't the most expensive microwave oven we looked at, and it wasn't the cheapest, either. I chose it because Sharp is a brand I know and the price was right in the middle of what we were willing to spend.
I've had no problems with this machine in the two+ years I've owned it. As with most microwaves now, there are specialty buttons designed for popping popcorn or heating up some pizza. There's also shortcuts to melting butter, or defrosting meat, or softening up ice cream.
At 1100 watts, you get good power for a relatively low price. And the machine is compact enough for almost anywhere you would live. It doesn't weigh a lot, so moving it isn't a problem either.
I'm not sure if stores are still selling this model or not, but if they are, and you need a microwave that isn't too big, and isn't too small, you can do a lot worse than this.
