I highly recommend Sharebuilder for beginning investors. The automatic investment plan works amazingly for me, but it may not be right for more aggressive or advanced investors. Basically, it lets you invest money every Tuesday for a real cheap price - if you are willing to buy on that schedule then it is the best bang for your buck. I am in it for the long term, so waiting for Tuesdays to invest is easy for me.
Also, it is very easy to use, reliable, great customer service, and addictive to check every hour. I have heard a lot of more advanced investor's complain - but for me, it is just right!
