Shaklee Baby Gentle Wash —

There have been many various reports going regarding the dangers of various ingredients included in baby products. In the world of baby bottles it's a chemical by the name of Bisphenol A or BPA. With baby's body products it's Parabens which are commonly found in baby washes. In all honesty, I've not really gotten into the research or "bought into" the craze of buying everything natural but have been willing to look into more baby products that are better for babies. So when I was offered to try out the Shaklee Baby Gentle Wash I was more than willing to give it a try.

Shaklee Baby
For a little background Shaklee Baby Gentle Wash is available through a distributer or becoming a distributer/member yourself. Shaklee specializes in creating healthy, natural products for children and adults.

Gentle, Natural and Healthy
For the best description of the Shaklee Baby Gentle Wash it's best to read straight from the Shaklee Website "This extra gentle wash is naturally formulated to get your baby pip-squeaky clean from head to toe. Made with organic chamomile and lavender, it is PH balanced and sensitivity tested to shower even the most tender skin with love." 99% Natural and 75% organic ingredients are used. Among the pros of the Shaklee Wash is that it is Paraben, SLS free as well as free from 1,4-dioxane (not even sure what that is) and formaldehyde.

The 8.5 oz Shaklee Baby Wash comes in a round bottle with a pop up lid, which makes it easy to dispense. The scent is light with a flowery/herbal hint to it but it does not linger once rinsed off.

Washing the Babies
So I have to move quickly when washing my munchkins as they don't like to sit still for long. The wash doesn't lather as well as others I have used but it does a decent job. As for actually washing it does a great job at that. It rinses clean very easily as well, which, since my boys like to move, lets me take less time rinsing. I even could feel the softness in my hands after they had dried.

Now my boys have two different styles of hair as well. The baby has soft fine hair which means I need to use something with conditioning properties. Luckily, right after receiving our Shaklee wash, Z-Man had just received a summer cut that was shorter than short. I don't believe this wash would have been good for his tangle mess.

Baby why are your eyes red?
So this is where my major con is with the Shaklee Gentle wash... it is not a tear-free formula. Even states on the bottle not to get it in or near the eyes. So this takes out using it straight in the bath water as well as washing faces with the Gentle Wash. We figured out a couple of baths in that the boys' eyes do not react well to the wash as both of them had bright red eyes until I rinsed them off.

Would I do it again?
In all honesty, probably not. I am very familiar with how word of mouth marketing works as we have been a part of several different business systems before. The idea is you only buy products from yourself i.e. loyalty to your product. While the Shaklee Baby Gentle wash has an extraordinary listing of pros, there are two major cons that would keep me away from it, even if I was a part of the Shaklee system. 1. The non-tear-free formula. Big deal breaker for me. 2. The price. When I was choosing which product we would try I was also able to see the prices for the products. The 8.5 oz bottle of wash has a retail price tag of over $20 (a little cheaper for a member obviously). In my budget and in common sense, this is just an insane amount. I can go to Target for Method Baby Products ($6.37) or even Amazon for California Baby ($11.50) for a much lower price tag.

Thank you Darlyn for the bottle to try in exchange for an honest review of the product.

Thanks for a great article--I will definitely avoid using this as my little guy has sensitive eyes like I do!

I don't understand how a baby product can say to keep away from the eyes because it will irritate them. Cabies and kids always get their soap and shampoo in or near their eyes. Doesn't sound as gentle as it seems.

I have never heard of that brand before, but thanks for the informative review. A baby wash MUST be tear-free, or what's the point? Nice review!

Great review! Hopefully they'll create a tear-free formula...that's a definitely deal-breaker!

My dad used to buy a lot of Shaklee products when I was younger. I never heard of it after I left college. I had some friends in VA who were distributors and they tried to sign on my brother. I don't think I could pay $15-20 for baby wash.

excellent review it is so sad when we try to do natural or organic and it just doesn't work out.
