Sex and The City - The Movie Review Summary

"Sex and the City hits the big screen with great results!" Four years after the series ended its long run on cable television, its back, to the delight of most Viewpoints moviegoers. Women of all ages gathered in small groups to see the new hit film, starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon, ending in a split decision whether this was worth the hype or not. While a few reviewers report that the planning and get-togethers for the girls night out held more merit than the actual film, longtime fans of Sex and the City claim to have missed seeing Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte, and enjoyed the "new insight as to where each of them were heading." Jennifer Hudson, and addition to the cast, received mixed reviews, and can be heard on the Sex and the City Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.

After about 4 years after the television show ended, Sex and The City is back in the form of a theatrical release.  Picking up right where the show left off, the movie goes back in to the stories of the four New York City girls, and gives fans new in-sight as to where each of them were heading with...

Okay, so I like the show Sex and the City (although I wasn't gaga over it!)... but the Sex and the City movie was just alright for me.

Yes, I did the girl thing of going with a bunch of friends, having cosmos afterward, and I even busted out my heels. (this is a rare day!) Now, that was fun. And, yes,...

Before I review the movie I have to admit that although I think Sex and the City was a brilliantly written TV show that had great performances, I never really liked the premise. Week after week, under the false pretense of empowering women, the show presented women as panicky squeaky creatures who only care about shoes and men. 4 years later the movie isn't presenting a much different take on the female gender. Women come to NYC for two 'L's announces narrator Carrie Bradshaw: "Labels and Love".

Although it is most likely that mainly fans of the TV show will go see the movie, it begins with a Charlie's...

I have never watched Sex and the City on TV more that a few times, have never had a Cosmopolitan, and have never even been to New York, yet, I found myself with a need to see the film version. I did the only logical choice; I brought along with me two dedicated fans of the show, my sister and my niece, thinking I'd need them to fill in a few blanks for me, to explain who was who and who had done what.

Even though I had watched the television series just a few times, I knew the basics of who everyone was and what they were up to. I knew that Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) was an author and on again/off...

Oh Carrie, I've missed you and your friends!
Last night I got together my own little group of four to go see the girls.   We got dressed up, met for cocktails and appetizers and got a little giggly with anticipation of a reunion.  After all, it's been some time since we got to hang with Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte.  My friend Joyce said she was almost dreading the film, knowing that it would make her long for the show all over again.   I was just hopeful the writing would be good.

The fashion!  The drama!  The romance!
Joyce was right.  The minute the movie started, it was just...

I was never a die-hard fan of Sex and The City when it ran on HBO, but I did watch it and enjoy it some of the time.  After some of the reviews I've read about the movie it seems that your fan status has a lot to do with how much you will or will not enjoy this movie.  While there are some good things to appreciate about Sex and The City: The Movie, there are also some problems that I couldn't overlook.

Good Points

What I appreciated most about Sex and The City was the relationships between the four main characters:  Carrie, Amanda, Samantha, and Charlotte.  This movie displays female bonding...

Bottom-Line:  In the final analysis, I thoroughly enjoyed the 145 minute long Sex and the City the movie and hope they make another, perhaps ten years in the future this time.

First an admission: I used to watch Sex and the City on HBO religiously together with my wife.  There I said it.  I enjoyed the show and I was displeased when it went off the air.  My favorite character was not Carrie, but Charlotte; I just adore Khristin Davis, her nose and the way she portrayed Charlotte with such sweet innocence.  So though my wife thought I would not want to go see Sex and the City, the movie with...

Until I saw this movie I haven't realized how much I actually miss Sex in the City.  The movie seems to put you right back into the girl's lives where they left off a few years ago.

When the series ended it left me asking what happened with Carrie and Big? Would Amanda really stay married to Steve?  What about Charlotte and Samantha?  I needed more.

The movie is great!  I can't go into it in case you haven't had the chance to see it yet, but if you were a fan of the series, it is well worth seeing.

It left me missing them even more!

Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthis Nixon and Chris Noth all play in the continuation film of the TV series Sex and the City.

Plot: I don't want to ruin too much of it.  It's basically just a wind up of the tv show and bringing everything to a close.  After 10 years of dating, Carrie and her hunky boyfriend, John, decide to get married.

What I thought: The opening choreography along with the funky upbeat music is an attention grabber and sucks the viewer in.  The wedding planner is hilarious.  The wedding dress photo shoot is really fun.  There's a great scene that...

I spent my thirties living in NYC. It was a great time to be young(ish) single, well paid and living in New York City. I used to totally relate to the Sex In the City Girls ("the girls"). I am an attorney, though not like miranda, I love fashion, though I dress more reasonably than Carrie, I love dogs, though I resist dressing mine unlike Charlotte, and Samantha and I well.... lets just move on.

I thought the ending of the series was great, Carrie got Big and everyone was well situated.

I almost did not want to go to the movie because, as far as I was concerned, all they could do was ruin a good...

No one who knows me will be surprised that I give Sex and the City five stars. I was 18 when Sex and the City aired on HBO for the last time. I get goosebumps and tears in my eyes when I remember the last time I saw Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda grace my TV screen. I converted both my high school and college sweethearts to Sex and the City fans who are not ashamed to admit their allegiance to the Fab Four. These stories show you what type of Sex and the City fan I was and always will be. Imagine my reaction when I learned that SJP, Michael Patrick King and the rest of my favorite crew... review »

This movie is everything that was terrific about the series.  I was a faithful watcher of Sex & The City when it was on HBO.  It was always so fun getting lost in the glamour, style, romance, and most of all, the friendships for an hour each week.  I was very sad when it was all over.

You can imagine how thrilled I was to hear the movie was coming out!   However, I became discouraged after reading some of the not so great reviews.  Now, after seeing the movie myself, I don't know what the negativity was all about!  I LOVED THIS MOVIE!  I thought they did an excellent job catching...

I never really got into Sex and the City until after the series had ended.  The few episodes that I caught on the WB network caught my attention and from there I rented whole seasons from Netflix so I could see all of the SATC goodness.  I did really like the show, so when I saw that there was a movie coming out, I added it to my Netflix list. (I don't go to movie theaters.)  I watched Sex and the City: The Movie right after it was released on DVD and again last night.  I wasn't impressed back then and I'm not impressed today.

The Sex and the City movie picks up shortly after the series ended. ...

I never watched Sex and the City until it started showing in repeats on local television, but I quickly fell in love with the series.  This movie encompasses all the fun of the characters in movie form, and Sex and The City the movie is a great way to relax and have fun with your gal pals.  The movie focuses on the lives of the four main characters Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte and focuses on the upcoming wedding of Carrie.  I love the attitudes and confidence of the characters and they are really women you can relate too.  You will enjoy the comedy and drama, just like the television... review »

    • If you are anywhere close to calling yourself a fan of the Sex & The City television show you would seriously be cheating yourself not to see this big screen version!! If on the other hand you are not yet a fan consider this, the makers of this film did an outstanding job of playing "catch-up" in a way that seems effortless. Sex & fans love the show for several reasons and the filmakers brought those attributes to the big sreen in a big way.
    • The wardrobe was TRue Sex & The City! The ladies were beautiful, clothing amazing and the accessories were no less than perfection! You always expect this...
