Sex and The City - The Movie Review

I never really got into Sex and the City until after the series had ended.  The few episodes that I caught on the WB network caught my attention and from there I rented whole seasons from Netflix so I could see all of the SATC goodness.  I did really like the show, so when I saw that there was a movie coming out, I added it to my Netflix list. (I don't go to movie theaters.)  I watched Sex and the City: The Movie right after it was released on DVD and again last night.  I wasn't impressed back then and I'm not impressed today.

The Sex and the City movie picks up shortly after the series ended.  Carrie is with Big, Samantha is out on the West Coast managing the career of her hot and much younger boyfriend, Charlotte and her husband have adopted a Chinese girl, and Miranda is married to Steve and raising their child Brady.  The main focus of the movie is Carrie and Big's engagement and impending wedding, though we also follow the issues that pop up into the other three women's lives. 

The plot is just okay in my opinion... I felt like I was watching a couple of episodes simply strung together.  There wasn't much "wow" factor in it (save for the wedding day scenes) to convince me that SATC should have been adapted for the big screen.  I didn't like Miranda's stubborn self-righteousness or Samantha's sudden weakness.  In fact, their whining and complaining scenes seriously detracted from my enjoyment of the movie.

All in all, Sex and the City is an average movie that will probably thrill the hard-core fans and leave those who never saw the show wondering what all of the fuss was about.  I would recommend it to those who really loved the show, but otherwise I'd say skip it.
