Sex and The City - The Movie —

Okay, so I like the show Sex and the City (although I wasn't gaga over it!)... but the Sex and the City movie was just alright for me.

Yes, I did the girl thing of going with a bunch of friends, having cosmos afterward, and I even busted out my heels. (this is a rare day!) Now, that was fun. And, yes, in case you were wondering, I am Charlotte... the goodie-goodie...

I smiled a lot at the movie, laughed out loud a couple of times, and even blushed a few times. But, with that being said, the fun was really hanging out with friends and less about the movie.

Here are a few of my takes on the Sex and the City movie:

  1. The clothes, which tend to be one of the best parts, were verging on horrible in my opinion. The shoes, hair styles, floral prints and dresses sometimes made you cringe. A couple of times in the movie, my friends and I looked at each other in shock. With that being said, Carrie's casual wear and Charlotte's clothes were adorable
  2. I expected more laughing. I love the typical inside girl humor and I just didn't get much of it this time! The movie was more serious than I was prepared for.
  3. The storylines sometimes seemed overblown and unrealistic. I think the wedding scene was unnecessarily dramatic and same with the rehearsal dinner. It also had me tense.
  4. For whatever it's worth, I thought Jennifer Hudson had an appropriate and small role that did not take away from the other characters
  5. Some claim the movie was long and it was-- but they couldnt really make it shorter with all the subplots they had going on

Overall, Sex and the City- the movie was just okay for me. But what I really enjoyed is that it forced me and a bunch of friends to leave our kids for a few hours and enjoy a little girl time and a few Cosmos. That is rare these days. So, for that, I am thankful.

Your reaction to this movie was similar to mine about, yep, Star Wars: The Clone Wars. It was better than I thought it would be, but that's because of "lowered expectations."

Great review very complete...I didn't know people dressed up to go see that movie. That's cute!

As a huge fan of the show I totally agree with your review! I thought it was so-so at best, and really probably should not have been made.

I wasn't huge on the show...Sometimes it was funny, but when I saw the previews and they have a little girl saying, "SEX" on the phone....that was a total turn off for me. I hate that folks make their kids grow up so fast!

Well I'm glad I didn't strap on my high heels. Although I must admit the cosmos at the end would have been fun. Oh well. Thanks for the review, I'll wait for it to come out on dvd.

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm planning to. Your review gives me a reason to start out with lower expectations; now I won't be disappointed. :)

I loved the show, but I had a feeling that they would take it all too seriously for the movie. But I may just give it a try anyway. Thanks for the great review!

I loved it - so I'm sorry you felt let down. But a night out with the girls is ALWAYS a good idea. ;-)

I was never a fan of the show and really have yet to see what all the hype is all about......great review!

Obviously, I'm not jumping out of my skin to see this right now. I'll defer to my wife as she is the Sex in the City addict.

Since I don't like the show I would not like the movie either. The last movie I watched with floral prints in it was McHales Navy and the guys wore Hawaiian shirts..lol.;)

I did wear heels.... can you believe it?!

I have to agree with you some what, Me I find the show overbearing and uptight.I guess there are so me who like it. But it is not for me.

I totally understand your feelings of the movie just being "alright." I felt that way after my first viewing... but somehow I appreciated the story more after seeing it a second time. I think my expectations were so high at my first trip to see the movie. I wouldn't really go as far as to say it was a let down... but I was certainly expecting more whitty humor and less sad drama. Seeing Sex and the City is ALL about going with your girls. I agree that was the best part. Did you really wear heels??

I'm not much on chick flicks either, Jolie. ;>
