When my daughter was potty training, my husband bought her this DVD to get her more excited about it.  You can't ever expect a DVD to do the training for you, but it doesn't hurt to have a little assistance.  Elmo made it fun, and even today, my daughter enjoys watching it, as we feel she sometimes needs reminders about hand-washing.

What We Love About Elmo's Potty Time
Elmo's Potty Time DVD is educational and entertaining.  Elmo and the Sesame Street gang not only explain what going to the potty or toilet means, they also go into the subjects of what it entails.  Including toilet-paper use, flushing and hand-washing.  It also discusses the excitement of transitioning to underpants and also that it's OK to have accidents.  It never labels potty readiness with an age, instead they encourage children to do it when they're ready.  I love that it includes the positive message that, "even if you are not going to the potty now, don't worry, you will".

The video also has excellent entertainment value.  The songs are fun and cute, there is a lot of humor.  Elmo's father will crack you up!  It is a light-hearted approach to a transition that can be frustrating to both parent and child.  My 3-year-old has been potty trained for about a year now and she still loves to watch this DVD once in a while.  Even her 1-year-old sister gets into it.  She loves music, so she will stand there and dance along.

I definitely recommend this video as a potty-training companion.  When our daughter was forgetting to wash her hands, we would play the video as a reminder after having a chat with her.  While she watched we'd say, "See, Elmo says you should wash your hands".  Afterwards she was reminding herself by saying, "Elmo says wash your hands!"

And, in case you're wondering, you don't actually get to see any of the Sesame Street characters on the toilet, except for a very short skit where Elmo's father is reminiscing about when Elmo first got his potty.  You will briefly see baby Elmo on his little potty while his father sings.  I just don't want anyone to think their child will be encouraged because they see Elmo or any of the other characters on the potty or toilet.  The video mostly discusses the transition and everything involved.  I wouldn't consider that a "con", however.

Have used this one myself -- actually get it every once in a while from the library. It was a hit at our house too.

This sounds like such a great idea. I'm just crazy about all things Elmo.
