My queen size mattress / box spring set did not fit up my winding , narrow staircase -we tried everything -getting in in through a window on a pulley, etc. but no go . So the solution was to either buy a full size mattress /box spring set or ,as we discovered , there was a solution called a split box set . I bought this Serta split queen box spring a long time ago and it is basically a queen size box spring that is cut in two - more or less like the size of two twin box springs . This has held up remarkably well - it is well-constructed and gives good support for the matching queen mattress .It is a clever and practical solution for people who never imagine they will have trouble maneuvering a queen box spring which does not fold or have any " give " when trying to maneuver stairs or tight spaces and for people who do not want to downsize to a full size mattress set . I would highly recommend this Serta split queen box set - it is pretty affordable and will provide decades of use -sometimes it slides a little but is easily fixed by pushing it together better when changing the linens.
