Seroquel is a drug typically given to schizophrenics or patients who are mentally ill; however, in lower doses it can be effective for people without a mental illness. I am in this category. I do not have schizophrenia, but I take Seroquel daily. My perscription is 25mg, and I take 3 pills (75mg) every night prior to bedtime. I always knewthis medication was something I needed, but I wasn't quite sure why. In fact, I always felt embarassement when people found out I needed the drug. A couple of weeks ago I finally aked one of my dctors (I have Brain Cancer so I have several different doctors that help me cope with my illness), why I am taking this medicine. I knew that seroquel helped me to function in my daily life as well have relationships with others, but I could never explain exactly what the medication does. My doctor gave me an incredible response, which made me feel so much better about taking a "psychotic" drug!! In short, he told me that I am similar to a patient with TBI (traumatic brain injury) and that the drug allows me to focus on just a few things at a time. Without the Seroquel I am overwhelmed with thoughts and ideas and noises, etc, and I cannot focus. Being so overwhelmed also gave me severe anxiety and inhibited my social life many ways.
