Sergeants Gold Squeeze-On for Cats and Kittens (Flea Treatment) —

Quick View: I did it again! I used an inferior product on my pets and now they are paying for it and so am I in vet's bills. This is the last time I will use ANyY flea and tick product that isn't Advantage or Advandtix.

About Sergeants Gold Squeeze-On for Cats and Kittens

I have two cats and a dog and, every year, we are infested with fleas. This year is in an incredibly bad one, it seems. One day, all was fine and the next, all the animals were infested with fleas. One cat seemed unfazed but my beloved Baby, the cat that I found a year ago in the road, is losing weight and is really bothered by the pests. I asked my husband to stop at a pet store and get Advantage or Advantix for both the dog and cats. They both work fast and I trust them as does my vet.

Unfortunately, the pet stores were closed so my hubby got what he thought was the next best thing, Sergeants Gold Squeeze-On for Cats and Kittens. he box contained three vials, good for one application per month for three months or, in our case, one application to each cat and an extra vial. They have formulas for cats under 5 pounds and over and we have the one for cats over 5 pounds.

The box says that Sergeants Gold Squeeze-On for Cats and Kittens will kill fleas, deer ticks, flea eggs, larvae, and even repel mosquitoes. Just what my poor kitties needed. I was not confident that this product would work but the cats needed relief ASAP. I squeezed one purple vial between each cats shoulder blades and hoped for the best.

Within 24 hours, Princess, our older female cat, was scratching and uncomfortable. She had not been prior to application of the flea medication. In fact, she was very content. I just applied the medication to prevent her from being infested. Now, she is acting like she was infested! She has been itching and scratching for three days.

Meanwhile, Baby, who desperately needed the relief, got absolutely NONE. The fleas are visible and moving just fine. I see no change whatsoever in the amount of fleas on him and he's just as uncomfortable as he was before I applied Sergeants Gold Squeze-On for Cats and Kittens on him. He now has a small patch of hair missing on his back where he must have bit or scratched himself too.

I can't believe this stuff did absolutely nothing at all to help rid my cats of fleas! I know Baby is a tough case but SOME of the fleas should be gone. I have a vet's appointment this weekend for a full flea bath and dip and application of REAL flea medication for both cats although Princess really doesn't seem to need all that. But if there's one flea, there's a million if left untreated.

I have since read that this product has caused great problems when used on dogs (They make a canine formula as well). The dogs itch like crazy (Like Princess has been doing.) and foam at the mouth. They have other severe symptoms as well. I read a story about a dog who died after being treated with this in the canine formula. YIKES! So far, I haven't seen anything of that magnitude obviously, I just haven't seen one bit of relief from fleas.

$10.00 for a three month supply is not a bad price but it doesn't work. I may as well have put water on my cats' backs. Maybe that would have even more effective.

My Viewpoint

I should have learned my lesson after using BioSpot and even Frontline Plus on my dog. Maybe we just have really tough fleas or they're immune to cheaper flea remedies. All I know is I have to get this stuff off of my cats (Two cats baths, lovely) and get them some real relief before they go crazy. My dog lucked out. I had a vial of Advantix here left from last season and he's doing much better. He'll be getting the full bath and tune up treatment too. As for Sergeants Gold Squeeze-On for Cats and Kittens, save your money and buy veterinarian approved flea remedies. Perhaps this works for cats with very mild flea infestations or to prevent fleas in cats that don't have any. It doesn't work on cats that have more than a few fleas. I can SEE the fleas running around, unaffected by the supposed poison they have ingested. 2 stars. I would go with 1 but at least I haven't seen awful side effects like others have reported with the canine formula. I don't recommend this product.

I am so sorry to hear that. I just don't get why these companies are allowed to sell this stuff. My dog had a very serious reaction to Bio Spot, another over the counter flea treatment. No more OTC stuff for my animals!

This product almost killed my cat. He became unresponsive and his heart slowed. The he started twitching. I called the company and they told me to wash it off him with dish soap, which I did. He recovered but it was a terrifying night. This product should not be legal!

Please everyone read this PDF file. Sergeants knows they are causing Suffering and Deaths to Pets!!! All along they are taking in Financial Profits off of our horrific experiences.

http://epa.gov/pesticides/health/spot-on-meeting-may2009.pdf

Coupled with the horrific experience of watching your Pet suffer, Sergeant’s Pet Care Products, Inc is creating great financial hardships (emergency vet visits and medications) for their customers
during a time when Good People who love their Pets cannot afford one more bad thing to happen to them.

Sergeant’s Products were taken off the shelves at the Walmart in my region, that makes me extremely happy to know one more innocent Pet or hard working loving family will not have to suffer while your company makes a financial profit.

In response to GigiandAdonai's comment from Jul 15, 2009 at 10:24PM:

I worked for a vet and volunteered at a shelter many times. Fleas don't bother me although I obviously want them off my pets. All three are going to see the vet Saturday so they should be doing much better then!

Are you not freaking out that your cats have fleas? I would be having tactile hallucinations and going bonkers. You better take care of Baby or she'll run away again.
