Sephora Kat Von D True Romance Eyeshadow Palette Gypsy Review

Since Sephora has come to our area two years ago, my makeup exposure to new products has gone WAY up.  As a makeup artist, I am always on the lookout for good quality products that will work on many types of skin, yet not cost a fortune.

One of the most interesting palettes to come out in a while has been the KAT VON D TRUE ROMANCE GYPSY palette from Sephora's own line of eyeshadows.  While Sephora eyeshadows are decent in quality but not as nice as Stila's Indian Summer, or LORAC eyeshadows, they are adequate for those who just want a little makeup.

KAT VON D TRUE ROMANCE PALETTE IN GYPSY is a step up from SEPHORA'S usual quality of eyeshadows.

WHAT IS KAT VON D GYPSY PALETTE LIKE?

A long rubberized container that snaps shut, KAT VON D GYPSY PALETTE has eight different colors in it- 7 are powder pressed in a pan and the 8th is a cream.  The palette is covered with great tatoo designs from KAT VON D and the coloring is a great metallic green of the labeling.  The palette inside the box comes wrapped in a gray paper sealed with a bright green seal- very special and official looking.

There are two very decent brushes inside this compact, which is a pleasant surprise.  They are very small allowing for great detail work even on the smallest lids, and they are synthetic with excellent spring.  This allows for great and accurate placement of product.  I am impressed with this brushes from such a reasonably priced compact.

COLORS

• LUCIFER- flat matte black can be built up from a sheer flat gray to dark flat black
• STRYKER- gorgeous taupe color with light kelly green shimmer
• FRANKIE- reddish taupe color- reminiscent of LORAC CROC colors
• HAWKWIND- ivory with lime green shimmer in it (similar to MAC white gold pigment but find texture
• BRASS KNUCKLES- GORGEOUS lemon gold metallic cream shadow- similar in texture to MAC Fluidlines
• BIRDCAGE- beautiful chartreuse color with a lemon chartreuse shimmer
• EGO SUN-kelly green with lime shimmer
• GUNNER- deep pine green with kelly microglitter- can be sheered out or layered for deep look- glitter does stay put with the shadow which is a surprise but the base color is FLAT

COMMENTS

At first I was really struck by the beautiful colors in the KAT VON D GYPSY palette, but as I looked at them, I was not sure if they would look good on me.  I have not had great results with KAT VON D palettes before, and had to return the one I bought.

I had some credit with Sephora, so I decided to try this palette out.  WOW.  The colors are really beautiful and all compliment each other.  Even used all together, the effect is stunning.

The compact comes with a large mirror making it easy to take with you on a trip and use the palette for just about anything.  The tendency in this palette is toward green, but the reddish taupe and the ivory with green shimmer are neutral enough to carry you through for non-green looks.

The staying power of the KAT VON D GYPSY palette is quite good in my experience so far.  The gold cream shadows stays put quite well once it is set, and it also makes a decent eyeshadow base.  It does not seem to crease on me so far, but if it does I will update to reflect that.

The color selection is really pretty.  If you like green eyeshadows at all, I would suggest you try this palette.  You can sample it at Sephora if you have one, but be advised, the cream shadow dries out very quickly when exposed to air.  The sample tester palettes at the stores are always left open so they are usually very dry and hard to use.

Although I am currently still in love with the STILA INDIAN SUMMER CHARMED PALETTE most of all this summer, KAT VON D GYPSY is a good choice to check out.

I don't think that the KAT VON D GYPSY palette is quite as flattering on aging eyelids as the STILA CHARMED PALETTE from the  INDIAN SUMMER COLLECTION is, but it is still decent.

The price is $34 for 8 colors.  It is a good quality shadow and compact for the price.  And if you love green, it might be a great palette to have on hand as I think it would be easy to use up even if it was your only palette.

If you are not a big green fan, this palette is probably not for you.
