Let me just start by saying that I have never purchased ONE thing at Sephora...ever. Particular is an understatement to describe my taste for makeup. With such fair, sensitive, dry skin, I have only used a handful of products that I felt "complimented" my face. I have used the same foundation brand (Body Shop) since I was in high school, the same lipstick color that has long been discontinued (L'oreal Coffee Talk), and the exact same eyeshadow no matter what color dress I'm wearing, day or night (Revlon Wet/Dry Shadow "In the Buff"). I was never a seeker for expensive makeup lines or brand names, even though 99% of my friends and family swear by MAC. So for me to pitch a makeup product means that I went through every shadow of doubt before purchasing it. Let me tell ya, it's awesome!
This year, Sephora launched their Blockbuster 2007 Collector's palette, which features 64 different eye shades, 32 lip shades, 6 blushes, and 2 powders. Anything from luscious lavenders to eye-busting blues, this palette covers the entire spectrum of popular hues. This makes it so easy for me to "experiment" with different shades to compliment my fashion without having to buy separate products. It saves me space, time, and money. I like that!
Not only do you spoil yourself with 104 different colors, but Sephora also provides you with four eye-shadow brushes, two lipliner brushes, and two contour brushes. A huge mirror conveniently adorns the inset of the palette, and the 6"x6" container is creatively packaged in a sparkly, metallic shell.
Before you start seeing dollar signs, this palette was an easy-to-manage $48.00. Not bad for Sephora, right? Especially since I trolled around the entire Ala Moana Shopping Center looking for my friends' gifts for around $50 bucks or so, this was the perfect solution. I had purchased one for myself, and two for my best friends. I had asked the Sephora representative if she could grab more from the back and they had run out after I had taken the last three. After bringing these home to show my sister and a few of my friends, they too were shocked at the affordable price and beautiful packaging that they also ran out to buy one. One of my male friends was so impressed with it that he ran out and bought two for his girlfriend and friend!
The swatches are just the perfect size for you to see which ones you like without wasting on colors that you'll never use. You've got your metallics, mattes, creams, and powders all in one. So if you are still looking for that awesome gift to buy for your gal pals, whether they are a makeup guru or an eye-shadow eyesore, this is the product for you.
12/9/07: In response to RUFingSerious blunt, but fair comment, this product is extremely easy to use. Sephora is known for their wide range of quality makeup products. I have used four different shades so far (gray, brown, pink, and highlight) with easy blending and tonal accuracy. The colors are rich, but depending on which hues you use, some are naturally bolder than others. Comparing the eyeshadows to the ones I've used previously, I feel this palette gives the same degree of coverage and tone. As far as the lip colors, I use the left side more frequently than the right just because my face is too fair for some of the extreme coppers and plums. However, it goes on smooth and blends with the lipliner that I use just fine.
