A few weeks ago I was placing an online order with Sephora.com and needed to spend just a dollar or two more to qualify for free shipping. So I went to the sale section of the site and found that Sephora Lip Butters were on special for only $2 so it worked out perfectly and my order shipped free.
I ordered a lip butter in the Bananas Foster scent/flavor but didn't expect to like it. I'm kind of weird in that I don't like really ripe, yellow bananas. I prefer my bananas a little less sweet and actually more on the green side than yellow. As I expected this product to taste sweet and fake like a circus peanut I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived on my doorstep, tried it out, and it found that it tastes and smells very natural and slightly green.
Sephora.com states that Bananas Foster is banana and caramel, with a hint of coconut and vanilla, but I don't pick up any coconut or vanilla; just pure, fresh bananas.
Sephora also states the Bananas Foster is super emollient, concentrated, and that it hydrates and protects lips with a rich blend of moisturizers, avocado oil, vitamin E, and a bit of shimmer.
I agree that it is very emollient and keeps my lips moisturized. Bananas Foster looks very creamy in the small pot that it comes in. It is the exact color of butter and when I dip my finger into the butter it is the same consistency. Firm and not squishy or greasy. It is creamy and moisturizing and makes my lips feel really good. The scent is very nice as well as is the taste. I don't notice any shimmer when I use this product though and it's not glossy at all. It's much more of a moisturizing treatment or balm than a gloss so it may be suitable for men as well. My husband tried it once and was not grossed out by it and it wasn't glossy on his lips so he did not complain.
Because I'm a bit of a germophobe I don't like that Sephora lip butters don't come with an applicator. I really dislike having to dip my finger into the gloss and then onto my lips, therefore I keep this product on the end table next to my sofa and just use it at home where I know my hands are clean or I can wash them right before applying.
4 stars - normal retail price is $6 for 0.2 ounce which is a bit pricey but when they're on sale for $2 that's a pretty good value. Sephora Bananas Foster is a very nice lip butter that moisturizes and smells and tastes good and I'd definitely buy it again.
