Select Comfort Sleep Number Bed 3000 —

My husband and I were newlyweds sleeping on his mattress set that was quite old...and worn. It was more than evident (after many many sleepless nights) that we needed a new bed set up. We had seen the advertisement on tv for the sleep number bed and know a few couples that love theirs. We went to the Select Comfort store where we got an idiot of a sales rep...however were in heaven the moment we laid down. Finally a bed that we could both be comfortable with. I could have a soft setting, my husband could have a bit firmer.... Sounds great huh? Of course while we're in the store buying our bed we have 2 sales reps. gaining up on us with other "needed" products. In all we spent $2,900 for the King sized 3000 model, mattress pad, mattress topper, true silver mattress topper, 2 pillows (one firm one soft), 2 pillow protectors, 2 true silver pillow protectors, and one Sit and Read pillow with case. We're obviously suckers I know! They were running some special...purchase X amount of bedding products get like 30% off or something like that... Anyways...we received our bed only a day later than we were supposed to...no big deal. Delivery guys were great. The bed works...however, it is the most uncomfortable thing EVER!!!! I'm a side sleeper... In the store we determined I'm about a number 30. I slept at a number 30 for the first week and had horrible back, side pain. My hip lays on the box spring...this shouldn't happen no matter what setting!!! We have a King Size and there literally feels like there is a giant metal beam in-between us. There's no more cuddling...it would just be too uncomfortable! I've been a number 35 for 4 days...no comfort. 40 for 4 days...still painful... at 45 my shoulder goes numb and my fingers are tingly...it only gets worse from there. The bed is possessed. If I leave it at a 35 the next night I'll get in and it's at a 50. The motor is loud so I wake my husband to re-adjust constantly. I feel like I'm laying on a air matress...you know the kind you want to avoid when you go visit your grandparents. It's like sleeping on a carnival ride. It's not the new great invention...its a cheap air bed framed with an old matress with the middle cut out. As for the bedding...seriously, no big deal! It's no different than any other bedding. My husband got conned into the True Silver bedding. It's supposed to keep you cooler at night...totally a lie. The pillowtop mattress pad isn't great but is the only thing I'd consider keeping. The pillows are too thick...it makes it impossible for the "straight spinal cord" they are insisting you need. The sit and read is nothing but a big square pillow blob that has no shape or comfort. Calling customer service is a nightmare. You spend forever on hold waiting for a representative while listening to a spiel on how to find your feel number. When you get to the rep. they just basically tell you the same spiel again and act like it's your stupidity...not the bed. The people at the store basically tell you their hands are tied and you have to call the 1-800 number. If you email them they also tell you to call the 1-800 number. Needless to say my 30 days are almost up...I haven't found my comfort level, nor do I believe there is one! I'm disgusted with the bed and the company. I dread trying to get them to take this piece of junk back...and I dread bed shopping all over again. I'm tied, crabby, and out of patience.

Amen girlfriend!! We've had our bed for almost 3 years now and I despise it. I usually sleep with our 1 1/2 yr old on her very comfortable, yet fairly inexpensive twin mattress over a bunkie board on the floor. My hubby loves the sleep number bed, but I feel like I'm sleeping on a bubble. I get the numbness and tingling too-it moves around depending on the setting. All I can hope for is it pops soon or we may have to go back to the 50's thing and have separate beds!! Also, I swear when I sleep on the Sleep number, I wake up with my lungs hurting and I feel groggy. We use a mattress protector, so no visual mold, but I wonder if it's something in the foam.....Here's to better sleep soon!
