Select Comfort Air Bed Review Summary

The Select Comfort Air Mattress is a great option, say people who are interested in comfort. What is it they like? Perhaps it’s the fact that with two air chambers that can be inflated or deflated to adjust the firmness of the mattress. Our reviewers report that the Select Comfort eases back pain and is easy to assemble (it comes in three pieces). Drawbacks include the fact that the Select Comfort is not cheap. Some reviewers have complained that if the bed is not level, it may cause one sleeping partner to roll down to the other. Bottom line, the Select Comfort Mattress is not without it’s detractors, but overall Viewpoints customers are satisfied. Tip: Select Comfort mattresses manufactured before 2005 were not treated to prevent mold, so be sure to check the air chambers.

A little over a year ago, after considerable shopping around, we upgraded from our queen-sized water-bed to a Select Comfort mattress. It fit nicely within our existing frame and we both find it extremely comfortable. We'd have liked to try the Temporpedic, but there's no "test driving" one of those... review »

We bought this bed for the reason many people buy it--one spouse likes a firm mattress (me) and the other likes a soft mattress (my wife).  But if you expect the mattress to resolve the problem--don't get your hopes up.  Although my wife finds it to be comfortable, and sleeps well, I find it is the...

After doing much research online, I thought this would be the best mattress for my back problems. I tested the bed in the store and then later brought my husband in for the test. We decided to buy the top of the line 9000 kingsize bed paying over $5000 for the set. When it was delivered and set up all seemed OK until the first  night. When I woke up the next morning, the bed did not have much air in it. I read about testing for leaks and did what it said. Sure enough, I had a leak. I contacted the company and the lady I talked with said she would ship me new air chambers overnight (this was Friday... review »

I bought this bed over two years ago because it seemed to perfect solution for my boyfriend and I. He likes a very firm mattress and I prefer something more soft. Well unfortunately this bed was anything BUT a solution. For the first month (which happens to be the money back guarentee time period) it was great. Now when he has his side very firm and I have mine softer, it create a "slope" and he tends to roll toward me and then there is now a sag in the center as well. Basically there are two air chambers and you are suppose to be able to put your side at whatever setting you would like. This... review »

After years of watching the infomercials, reading through hundreds of review, asking person after person, and testing mattress after mattress (in store and especially comparing with the memory foam beds), my husband and I decided to purchase the King Size Select Comfort Air Mattress 5000.  Now, 3 years later, it is definitely the best investment we have ever made.  I wish we had the bed during my 5 pregnancies.  I'm positive it would have helped tremendously.  My husband has also had sinus surgery, several knee surgeries, back surgery, and several other minor back things like cortisone...

The bed is comfortable however the problem comes in if you have duel air chambers. This means two people can adjust both sides of the bed to their own comfort. Problem is if one persons side is much higher or lower than the other persons side you tend to roll down into the other persons side. Not good

We have a Select Comfort king sized bed. My husband & I were looking for a comfortable bed, and had slept very well on portable air beds when visiting relatives. So, we figured select comfort with dual controls should be even better.... Boy were we wrong! My husband prefers a softer matress (#40-45) and I prefer a little more firmness (#55-60). Because his # is lower, there seems to be a "hole" on his side of the bed from which I am constantly fighting to keep from rolling into! And, when he gets up and leaves in the morning (earlier than me) the hole gets way worse because then there... review »

OK, the next to the highest grade king adjustable Select Comfort Air Mattress is better than the leaky water bed that it replaced, but all the hype of back pain relief for me, is just that ... hype.  Inflating it to support my bum makes it too firm for the rest of me.  Deflating it to gain upper-body comfort makes it sag too much in the middle.

Sadly, I would have sent it back had it not been for my wife who did not want the same hassle sending this bed back as we did with one of those "memory foam" mattresses.  She said it was comfortable enough.  Now a couple of years have passed and...

We bought the select comfort several years after trying it out in a mall store.  It's a lot of money to spend and we wanted to be sure it would be a good investment.  After my husband had surgery it was time to get it.  We were told delivery would be 2 weeks, but it arrived in 4 days.  It came in 3 boxes that we had to put together.  My 'not really a handyman' husband, being only 3 weeks out of major abdominal surgery thought he could put it together...and he did.  He is still bragging about the great directions making it simple to do.  It fit right on top of our box springs helping that...

We purchased the select comfort air bed because my husband and I like different firmness for sleeping, we thought this would answer both of our desires.  However, I really dislike the bed and my husband is happy with the purchase.

The positives are that each person can set their own firmness level.  The motor is fairly quiet.  Setup is not difficult and took a minimal amount of time.

The negatives are that  I now wake up with a sore shoulder/neck/arm which has never occured before.  I sleep on my side and it feels like my shoulder is hitting a hard surface beneath the pillowtop.  We even...

My husband and I were sucked in by the guarantee and the idea that you can customize your mattress to the user. In theory this is great but in actuality it is terrible and causes great pain. Honestly by the time you get the bed set up, 30 days just isn't enough time to decide you hate the bed so that you can send it back in time. We have the king version which is simply two twins pushed together with a mattress topper. There is a canyon in the middle of the mattresses and we were sent a foam insert which did absolutely nothing. We have had the mattress less than two years and already have had... review »

My husband and I bought this bed 6 months ago, and it causes us to sink in the middle. It is so uncomfortable that we have been sleeping on the floor for the past few weeks.

I have had a Select Comfort King size bed with all the bells and whistles (dual chambers, vibrate massage, adjustable frame, etc)  It was great for the first 3-5 months - then it seemed I needed to change the firmness very frequently to be comfortable - that helped for around a year, then after that, I just can't spend allot of time on it.

I had back surgery and have a failed lumbar fusion so support while sleeping is very important.  I have a military cot with a 3" memory foam pad on it that I find more comfortable.  When I sleep on it, my chiropractor and massage therapist always comment...

My husband and I were shopping at a local mall, talking about how we needed to replace our old mattress. One of the stores was having a sale on the air mattress top mattresses so we decided to try them out. We laid on it and it was sooo comfortable, or so we thought!!!. We bought the mattress and had it delivered to our home. We played around with how much air to make us comfortable. The first night was not bad. However each night after that we would awaken during the night to find out that the mattress had lost air and so had to get up to adjust it. At the same time each morning we would... review »

Would never purchase a Select Comfort mattress and would never recommend it to anyone.  The first time we went to move the bed, we found mold on the air chambers.  When we contacted the company, they said the bed was to be opened every week and allowed to air, which we were never told when it was purchased.  They said they would send replacements, but we never received them.
