We purchased the select comfort air bed because my husband and I like different firmness for sleeping, we thought this would answer both of our desires. However, I really dislike the bed and my husband is happy with the purchase.
The positives are that each person can set their own firmness level. The motor is fairly quiet. Setup is not difficult and took a minimal amount of time.
The negatives are that I now wake up with a sore shoulder/neck/arm which has never occured before. I sleep on my side and it feels like my shoulder is hitting a hard surface beneath the pillowtop. We even purchased a memory foam top and that has not helped the situation. It needs more give at the pressure points for side sleepers. I have it set at 40 and if I soften the bed anymore, I feel like I'm sinking into the bed which is not comfortable to me. My husband likes a soft bed and has his set at 20, but it looks like he's sunk down into the bed and I am at least 6" above him. If I dare cross the center of the bed, I roll downhill into him. The sides of the bed are flimsy at best and is not too supportive to be able to sit on the side of the bed. Because of the low setting my husband has, when the bed is made it looks like a 30 year old mattress that has sunk in the middle from years of use. The components of the bed in no way justify the high price.
Lastly, if you do purchase the bed, do not waste your money on the foundation, if you already have a good box spring, that will work just as well despite what they tell you when you make your purchase. They make a hard sell of it, and IT IS NOT NECESSARY.
