Select Comfort Air Bed —
After doing much research online, I thought this would be the best mattress for my back problems. I tested the bed in the store and then later brought my husband in for the test. We decided to buy the top of the line 9000 kingsize bed paying over $5000 for the set. When it was delivered and set up all seemed OK until the first night. When I woke up the next morning, the bed did not have much air in it. I read about testing for leaks and did what it said. Sure enough, I had a leak. I contacted the company and the lady I talked with said she would ship me new air chambers overnight (this was Friday morning). I did not received the air chambers by Monday afternoon so I contacted Select Comfort and found they had not been ordered. The lady I talked with then agreed to have then shipped that day overnight and send a confirmation email with the shipping number. I did received the new air chambers Tuesday and my 30 day trial was extended an additional 30 day period. until Dec. 30, 08. So, my husband slept in another room and I slept on the good side that did not leak. After putting in the new air chambers all seems to be OK until we had our first cold front come thru, then my number dropped from night to morning. I look in my book again and it says the numbers will change due to temperature and barometric change. None of this was explained in the store. So far it has change from 20 - 25 points overnight sometimes up sometimes down. I called and talked with someone about this and they said this is normal. then she gave me the "correct number" I should be at for my height and weight based on their chart for lower back problems. It was 50. The number I am comfortable at is 80. So I did try the 50 for several nights and I woke up with my back hurting more and I was stiffer. I bumped it back to my 80 and left it trying another couple of weeks and recording the morning and night results when I went to bed and woke up. My numbers were from 55 - 100 making sure each night I started out at 80. So you can see they bounced around. So, since my second 30 days was coming up, I called to see about returning the bed. Now they are sending a 1 inch piece of foam that goes under the air chambers that is suppose to help with back problems and giving me an additional 30 days on my trial period. I will give that a try, but I doubt it will help. She also told me to deflate the bed, lay on it on my side and then inflate it until I feel a nudge between my ribs and hips. That will be my number now. I have done that. Now it is 60. I have been sleeping at that number for 2 nights now and my back hurts even more. Sometimes during the night I move from my side to my back and that is when my back hurts the most. I will give the foam piece a try, but as I said it probably won't work and I will be sending this back. My husband has not liked the bed from day one. Another thing we both were disappointed with is the air pump is very noisy so if you use in the middle of the night you wake your partner. For the price you would think they could make something a little quieter.,
